Oh no! I'm sorry to hear this news. What are you going to do? I would have a hard time being swayed to go to Cancun after looking forward to being in Playa.

D#%m, I hate hearing that kind of news. Closest I want to be to Cancun is the airport on the way to PDC. Maybe if they sent you to Cancun to a similar level resort PLUS free period in the future at the RPDC for the same length of time you'd booked.

Hi, we spent last week at the RPDC & it was awesome. I would try to hold out for a room. What room type are you booked for?
We did talk to a group that did a day trip to the Royal in Cancun & they did say that place was pretty good too tho. But ya just can't beat Playa.

Simple. If you don't want to stay in Cancun, tell them no. They'll go on to the next person on their list. It should be THEIR problem, not YOURS.

Maybe they are calling a lot of people trying to get them to switch knowing that some will just say ok without much of a fight while some will down right refuse. Let's say they overbooked by 10 rooms. They call 20 people trying to get those 10 freed up ASAP. I would down right refuse and maybe enough others will give in?!?! I don't know that for sure, just speculation.

Now that's a thought! The Royal in Cancun is having it's grand opening....I think they're trying to fill it up. I'm just not as comfortable going to Cancun since I'm traveling with my 19 yr. old daughter. Isn't it more like a city downtown than little town feel of Playa?

The hotel zone is neither and you won't be anywhere near downtown without a long bus ride. Downtown markets are worth seeing and paying too much in and there are a few restaurants there that are very nice, but not much else worth visiting as a tourist, as Cancun centro is (mostly) just a place to serve the needs of those who work in the hotel zone. There are the same sort of malls and stores you will find at home, so that's not much worth going into town for. But, if they could upgrade your room AND give you some kind of future credit, I think it would be worth it... in my experience, the beach has the potential to be better in Cancun these days.

If you're longing for the Quinta experience, there is nothing in Cancun that even comes close, though.

Yes, definitely like Downtown Minneapolis on a Saturday night in July. I loved it, but I wouldn't let my kids loose there!

Just got off the phone again. They are saying the hotel has had an "incident" and a large block of rooms are unavailable as they aren't up to a "five star caliber." Have a call into RCI to check with them. I hate last minute changes.

I will be arriving at about 9pm Saturday April 21 staying at the RPDC, I hope everything will be OK. I'm worried with a late check in that if anybody gets bumped it will be me. No one has called me and I booked through Air Transit Holidays. If I do arrive and they have no rooms and want to move me for a couple of nights what would be considered fair companstion?
