throw away your Corona bottles

It's finally here, Corona in NR longnecks. I guess they are the same bottles that have been available in the export market for years. As long as I've lived in Mexico, the only NR Corona product was Corona de Barril, a stubby and round brown bottle. A few months ago Corona came out in a can and Modelo released the rest of the product line in NR glass, so the writing was on the wall.

I think the move to throwaway is a bit sad. It's already becoming uncommon to find glass soda bottles when you grab a taco at a changarro. There's no deposit and no incentive to recycle. The idiotic "save your receipt" policy required to get your deposit back for reusable glass makes the wrong choice so much easier and usually even cheaper.

Of course, that's not making me enjoy this one any less.

Mexican progress?

I also was saddened to see all the nonreturnables and don't like to carry them out in the trash. It may be a short term convenience for some; but, we will all pay for it long term.

I buy Leon in returnable bottles at the little store in front of the distributor. A case of 20 costs 100 pesos when I exchange the empties. I seem to pass it frequently and it's not a big hassle.

Where is the joy in Mexican bottled coke's in plastic ? Do you want me to mule some Coca Cola importada next week? THAT would be weird. They are plentiful in glass bottles here...bummer though, because they violate Coke's distribution contracts, they are non-returnable, the tiendas don't want them back.

up here you can return ANY drink container except milk for money...juice, beer, wine, wine in the BAG even, tetra-paks, everything. It's actually a great way for many groups to fundraise. Too bad more places don't jump on that bandwagon.
