The Royal Playa del Carmen questions

I think we're going to book a quick getaway with 2 other couples for this July. I have a few questions though:
Are the guys getting away with flip flops in the rest.?
One couple wants an oceanfront room. Is it better on a higher floor or are the ocean front walk-outs better?
For us and the other couple, if we book a Royal Jr. Suite we'll get to pick our room beforehand, right?
What room numbers should we look for?
Are there Ipod docking stations in the rooms now?
Never thought I'd be getting back to Playa so soon. You were all right. Now it's in the blood.

No flip flops in the ala carte restaurants.

The beachfront walk out rooms offer little privacy AND it's a lot more expensive than the oceanfront room. The higher you are off the ground = the better your view of the ocean. I'd take oceanfront, not the walk out and save the money.

You have to book a Royal Jr. Suite Ocean view or higher room category in order to be able to use the online check in/room selection area of the RPDC web site. If you book just a regular Jr. Suite, you can't check in online and select your room.

Can't help you with that, depends on what room category you book for one. If you qualify for the online check in, just wait until you are able to see what's available and go from there.

In the Royal Jr. Suite Ocean view rooms and above - there are supposed to be. I wouldn't be surprised if not every room will have one though as I bet it's going to be difficult to keep them in good repair and working order every day in every room that is supposed to get one.

We just got back:
We asked for non-smoking, king, upper floor. We got the first two, but ground floor, Room 153. It turned out to be OK, but I would have liked to be up at least one floor for the closed-in balcony.
No Flip-Flops and definitely no shorts allowed in restaurants for dinner!
I agree with Shammy - beachfront walk-out rooms are highly overrated, with no privacy. Upper floors are better.
No Ipod docks in the rooms we saw. The hotel was just changing linens from the standard bedspread to the duvets in our block of rooms (150-155)

Thanks for all of your replies. I do wish they would chance the shoe thing. Jeans are one thing, but we live in flip flops down there. Plus in late July...

From what I hear, you may be doing room service, or dining at the Gran Porto across the street...I am so sad that all of the restaurants require long pants for dinner...Sunburnt,Tired,No hot water in your room , and you have to dress up..I have stayed at the Royal twice...Still burns my buns to see the trouser rule at all the restaurants...

Thanks for the information everyone. We will be down there in early july. And I agree that they should have at least one restuarant that doesn't require long pants. Just for those days when your wiped out and just want to grab a quick dinner. (Of course I don't have to worry about it, but I'm gonna have to listen to the boys complain)There will us and another couple staying 7/3-7/9 and we are trying to get a peep meet started for the 4thwith redhairedgirl1 and mellidee(not sure if i spelled that right?)Anyone Else in town then let us know

Yes. . . women can wear nice sandals. A nice soft loafer with no socks is fine for the men, and just a nice light cotton pant.
Bye the way. . . we NEVER had a problem with a lack of hot water!

Well the hot water in the shower that didn't get hot was a mystery to me..The rooms on either side of our room had hot water in their showers...We had hot water in the jacuzzi and in the vanity sink..No hot water in the shower and the sink in the bathroom...I have a construction backround, and darned if I could figure it out...BTW, our room was 398...

I agree with everyone's comments....we have used USA3000 with FunJet and Apple several times. We have never had a late departure out of Cleveland, and only once were we late leaving Cancun...but the FunJet rep called us to let us know, which was great because we weren't stuck sitting at the airport.

I thought we didn't have hot water in our shower . The first shower I took I was so agrivated because no hot water. So hubby takes a shower, "honey, I had plenty of hot water". I was not turning the handle right. It was kinda confusing !

Yep that was my first thought...I had the maintenence people scratching their heads also......When I called the front desk the first day, they told me to let the water run for 30 minutes...Nothing worked...Since there was the sink in the bathroom and the shower with the same problem.....Who Know's ?...
