The Bombings in Baghdad

In the meantime, the residents of some cities live daily terror. In this morning:

-- Bombings in Baghdad kill 127 people, including 82 in an attack at a market, the Iraqi Interior Ministry says.

Thank you. Meanwhile, we live in our own, tiny bubble forgetting that others live with death tolls like these every day

The problem is that all religions were and are spread much the same way. It's difficult to watch it unfold though. Most of the folks affected probably aren't directly involved with the theological war raging around them. They just want to go to the grocery store.

All al-Qaeda needs is some love & affection. There just a group who is mis-understood. Maybe Nacy Pelosi will extend a covered hand or Diane Feinstein if she can get out of her driveway blocked by Code Pink-o.

That was intelligent..
The sad part is I see most Americans just tuning the whole Iraq thing out. If we had a draft or mandatory military service, they wouldn't be..

Yet another awful day in Iraq.
Awful for the troops having to see this country implode around them.
Awful for the troops who are losing their lives.
Awful for the civilians dieing in hundreds.
Awful for the casualties on both sides.

This surely cannot continue?

Surely it will continue. The question is whether the new Iraqi government will be given the opportunity, with our help, to stop religious zealots killing 1000s of civilians (and some of our troops as well) OR will the left here in America try and force a cut and run - essentially a surrender- in which case there will be even more senseless killing because we're not there and the fledgling Iraqi government cannot stand up to the tide?

Either way, the onus is on the Iraqis to become more independant from leaning on us. This is the way out.

They have been given the opportunity and failed.

Not. The only way out is to partition the place and walk away. There is no "Iraqi people". Never was. Read your history instead of listening to conservative talk shows.

Iraq: A Short History of Violence

'Iraq' is a misnomer in the state sense. The term al-'Iraq actually means the shore of the great river. It has been used by Arab geographers since the eighth century, but only came to mean a particular country situated in the alluvial plain formed by the Tigris and Euphrates rivers since the 1920s. One must understand the brevity of Iraq as a single political entity before one can ever hope to grasp its problems as they stand now. Furthermore, to gain any real understanding of Iraq one must recognize, through historical analysis, that Iraq has always been a country of disharmonious parts welded together only through the liberal application of force.
