Bet that thread title got your attention, didn't it?
Before anybody bothers to tell me.....yes, I know we did a thread along these lines about three years back. (I believe the esteemed Cuffedlinks started it?) But that was a long time ago, we've got a lot of new folks these days, and things change, and besides....talking about golf is never out of line. It's getting to be that time of year when golfers start to get pretty itchy. My course won't likely open for another week or two, but some of the local tracks are up and running already. I know I'm eager to get back to pasture pool in a big way. I'm not very good at it, but I do love the game, and it's sorta' like sex. When it's good....it's fantastic, and even when it's bad.....it's still pretty darned good. So, as I was polishing up the golf shoes, I got to thinking I haven't changed anything in the bag in a couple of years, and wondering what the avid golfers who loiter about this forum have in theirs. Any favourite can't-live-without-it weapons you'd care to crow about? A putter that must have belonged to some other golfer who used up all the good putts before you got it? A pitching wedge with that bizarre little kink in the shaft from hitting that elm tree on the 14th during your back swing? I'll start it off with what's in the Bumper bag. New "woods" a few years back. Driver - King Cobra, SS 350 Offset, Beta-titanium, 11 Degree Fairway Metals - King Cobra, 3, 5, 7, 9. All with Graphite shafts. Low kick, "Senior" Flex. Just about killed me when the pro advised me to go with that. I used to hit stiff steel. Gawd, I hate getting old. Irons - 2 Thru SW - Hogan Magnums, and you don't see those much. They only made them about two or three years. I got mine about 14 or 16 years ago. Regular flex steel shafts. Fazer Chipper. Everything with Tour Wrap Grips. Putter - Knock off Odyssey Two Ball. My chum makes clubs and whipped this one up for me. You know what they want for the genuine article?!?! I might have been born at night...but it wasn't last night. Ammunition - Top Flite XL Foot Joy glove and Soft Spikes. Power Bilt cart bag. Retirement present from Mrs. Bumper. Has about 35 pockets in it. Somewhere in that bag is a six pack of Labatt's Lite I put in there before a game last year and haven't seen since. By the way, I'll save you the trouble of the arithmetic. Yeah, I know...too many clubs. So report me to the stewards. Who cares. Like that's the only thing keeping me off the PGA Tour. Oh yeah, like all of you I have a few special items in the bag as well. Spare glove, spike wrench, wind vest, inflatable dinghy, rain pants, dynamite, HUGE eraser (Cut a bunch of strokes off my game!), compass, machete, telescoping ball retriever, roll of toilet paper, band aids, umbrella, flares, Don Julio snake bite medicine, a snake etc. And when I play a particularly tight course, I generally hook on a small trailer loaded with extra golf balls.

silly Canuck.....golf courses never close
wow, I haven't bought a new club in years, not much reason to until I start playing at least once a month...like I've been threatening to for the last 5 years or so I only carry one wood.... a forged 9.5 degree Taylor Bubble with a tour stiff shaft.....small forged head allows me to actually align the damn thing and the tour stiff shaft allows me to drop the 3 wood from my bag and carry 4 wedges. Have to keep my swing speed up to get full effect off the tee, thats good for 300-330 yds, or I can back off just a touch and get 3 wood distance of 260-280 yds, my 2 iron covers the 235-265 yd range so a 3 wood is just excess baggage. have a set of '93 Top Flite Tour forged irons 2-SW that are the straightest irons I've ever hit...problem is, they are dead straight and I can't do much to shape shots because they just correct the spin....but when the ball always goes where you want it, there's not much need to shape a shot. I also carry a 52 degree Titelist Vokey gap wedge specifically for 100-110 target shots and a Pure Spin 60 degree wedge for flop shots. If I can't hit the green, I always try and hit the 100 yd marker and let the Vokey do the rest. I use oversize Winn grips on all my irons, they stick the best in the Texas humidity. If I start playing more, I will buy a set of Mizuno MP-60 or MP-67 forged irons and probably trash the 60 degree Pure Spin for a 58 degree Vokey with very little bounce. Putter is a Ping Zing 2, no reason to ever change but I do have a Wilson 8813 as an alternative |

Please don't let me be so nervous When I toss the ball for service. Give me speed and strength unhaulting, Aces and no double-faulting. Instill in me the skill and dash Of Agassiie, Williams, Roddick and Ashe. When a high lob starts to fall, Must I always miss the ball? Lord, I know you could, I'm sure, Find me a Tennis Elbow cure. With the guidance from above, Never let me fall in 'love.' And, Lord, while on matters of this sort Please let me find an open court!! |

Driver - Ping Si3, 9.5 degree, with a tour stiff shaft.
3 & 5 fairway metals - Ping G2, tour stiff shafts. Irons 3 to PW - Cleveland Tour Action 7 (TA7) tour stiff shafts Gap & Sand wedge - Cleveland Tour Action 900 solid shaft Lob wedge - Goliath Magical Putter - Cobra Perth II All grips are double wrapped. Personally, I could not live without my PW. It's my 150 yard club and most of the time my club of choice in and around the green. I just bought a kick ass little golf cleaning tool that runs off of 4 - AA batteries. It has 3 different replaceable heads for different club cleaning. It is finally going to be in above 15 degrees this weekend. Golf anyone? |
