Sangrita Recipe (Mine . . . and yours?)

A recent tequila thread that mentioned sangrita (NOT that red wine stuff, that's sangria) got me thinking . . . some folks have tried fine tequila and never had sangrita alongside and some folks may have had the sangrita someplace and then got home with that expensive bottle of tequila and wished they knew how to make sangrita. (Face it, the bottle stuff is just crap and not wiorth sharing the table with your good tequila.) Like they used to say . . . I'm here to help! (And if others have their own recipes or if people want to give feedback, chime in!) Here we go . . .
Get a small can of plain tomato juice, those little individual serving size cans.
Pour it in your blender. Fill that empty can with fresh squeezed orange juice and add that to the blender too. Add one slice of a white onion (I slice fairly thin, but feel free to experiment.) Remove the stem from one serrano chile - depending on how spicy you like your sangrita, remove all or some of the seeds - I usually go for about 1/3 of them - and toss that in the blender. Add the fresh squeezed juice of one large lime (the Persian variety - if you are using the smaller Mexican limes, use more). Add a pinch of salt (and I like a couple grinds of black pepper). Run the blender on high until all trace of the "chunky" ingredients (onion and serrano) are gone. I chill mine (do not add ice) and it will keep about 4-5 days in the fridge.
Saludos!

damn, by the time you can mix all that up, I'd already be done with the bottle.

After ALL that, it would sure makes reaching for the GCR in the freezer seem REALLY easy too.

Seems like a nice workable recipe though.

Either you are REALLY fast or you misjudge my speed . . . Besides, really good tequilas should be savored, IMHO.

[And a big "Howdy" to San Marcos from this UT-Austin grad]

This is the one I posted on the tequila thread and it is terrific! Michele, hope to see you next month. Check the Peep section for a couple of meets we have scheduled.

Thanks all for these. I just bought a bottle of Centenario and needed a recipe. I jus love the combination of tequila and sangrita.

To whoever moved this here . . . thank you. I'm pretty new here and (apparently) didn't know where I should have posted it for starts.

Okay, I'm having the hardest time finding Maggi in the states...anyone got any ideas? A sangrita isn't the same without it.

I have seen it at the Asian store and recently at a Mexican store. Have you tried any of those?

okay...so I finally found jugo de Maggi...My local WalMart just started carrying it in the Latino Foods Section. Check there, because sangrita isn't the same without it.

Ok I am Tequila stupid. How does the sangrita meet the tequila? Do you mix it or is it a chaser?
