Romantic AI - ideas?
My husband and I will be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary (we are in our early 40's) and we are looking for a romantic getaway in Playa del Carmen and vicinity. We are looking for:
1) comfy beds 2) gorgeous beach (not effected by the recent erosion) 3) no fighting for loungers on the beach 4) preferably an Adult only resort Any suggestions? We are considering the Riu Palace, Excellence, Secrets and the Royal Playa Del Carmen - the Royal Hideaway is just too expensive. Desperately need some expert advice. We have stayed at the Riu Tequila and the Iberostar Hacienda in La Romana and enjoyed both. Our anniverary is two months today (finally have all the money saved...) so we are ready to book! Help! |

Hey congrats on your 25th! We're celebrating our 25th this year also. After MUCH research, I think we've settled on the Royal Playa Del Carmen. Seems to have everything we wanted and we liked that it is close to town. That is what really sold us.

we are also heading to the royal this trip. Adults only was a big deal for us.
I don't know about beach conditions there but we first stayed at the Aventura spa Palace for our honeymoon and loved it. It's farther from playa but the people there were so nice and we had a fantastic time. good luck with your search let me know if you want anymore info on ASP or if it's after july on the Royal. |

Riu Palace will fit your needs but it is not adult only resort. They do not offer any kids programs. Large Beach area with sun, shade, bar and hammocks. Large number of resturants at night with one buffet and the rest ala carte. All rooms are jr. suites. Ask for a room overlooking the courtyard.

El Dorado Royale is great. My clients love it. And they have wonderful rooms called casitas that are very lovely and romantic. Big long beach area. Beach bar service. Many private pools/pool bars.
We send many clients there and everyone is always very very happy. You can PM me if you want some more information. - Marissa |

The Riu Palace had a lot of families when we were there (It was during spring break). I do think that it is becoming more of a family vacation spot than it had been in the past. I would not recommend it for a ROMANTIC place to celebrate an anniversary. |

My husband and I have been to Secrets Capri and Excellance and the Royal before it was all adult. They all were great. We liked the Capri the best. It was a little more intimate. The beach is nice, but not the best. The room, food and staff were excellent. We met several great couples that we keep in touch with. We are going to try The Royal Cancun next Fall because of the beautiful Cancun beach and it's a new hotel. We don't leave the resort much anymore. Just relax and enjoy the beautiful hotel, the view, the beach, the food, the spa and special guests. Enjoy!

thanks island girl!
We are absolute beach buffs... we arrive around 7:30 and stay all day... we need shade and sun... we just read and relax all day! So a beach is an absolute must without those slimy things! So are there any adult only all-inclusive in the area that has a great beach that HASN'T been hit by the beach erosion? |

We just returned from the Royal Playa Del Carmen (April 17, 2007) and it meets all of your criteria. We were celebrating our 15th anniversary and the staff put champagne, dessert and rose petals on our bed...very romantic...Our bed was so comfortable, I have never slept at away from home on such a comfortable bed...we also had a duvet...We are also beach people and there are beach beds and lounge chairs under shade canopys...the beach has not been erroded at the royal, however, it has been at the gran porto real, it's sister resort, but you can't see it unless you decide to walk over there...I am very fussy about slimy things in the water, there was some seaweed, but nothing that I could not cope with...I don't think you will be disappointed with the Royal...if you have any specific questions, just ask

Yes the El Dorado Royale does have the whale humps out in the water but it did create some advantages. Here's a recent post about our EDR stay.
