Riu playacar in July
Hi all,
My husband and I plus our two girls(16 and 12) are going to the Riu Playacar July 17 2007(for 2 weeks) and are wondering if anyone knows when work starts on rebuilding the beach? Also is anyone else going around this time who would like to meet up for drinks? Look forward to any replies Nikki xx |

this is the reply i got from the hotel
Dear Guest, Thank you for your e-mail. The beach itself is in good shape, it's the beach access that got damaged because of natural erosion. Since the beaches in Mexico are all government owned, the only thing we could do so far is place sandbags to prevent more damage. In march the government will start preventing more beach damage. Please don't hesitate to contact us for any further information. Best regards, Management Riu Playacar |

I was at the Riu Playacar in April. The E-mail said that the government would start preventing future dammage in March. As of April 8th, there were no sandabags in the water of the RIU but a few small sandbags were on the beach to allow us to go up and down the incline. There were sandbags in the water at the resorts on either side. They may be positively affecting the water flow to the RIU. When we were there I felt that the RIU Playcar had the better beach on the northern end of Playacar. Of course, The Yucatan and south had even better beaches at that time.

The resort was very nice. Rooms were nice each with small refrigerators filled with bottle water, soda, and corona beer. Free!!! We left $2 a day for the person who cleaned our room. We always had extra towels. Sometimes we only spend $6 a day. Pretty cheap.
The food at the restaurant was very good always something different. We didn't pay extra for the specialty restaurant, happy with the buffets. Can use your cell phone there. First dial 001 then the area code & number, cheaper than buying a prepaid telephone card. Did take a ride into town $5 each way for my wife & me. Nice time shopping. We didn't go on tours, too hot sat around the pools all day. |
