Riu playacar in July

Hi all,
My husband and I plus our two girls(16 and 12) are going to the Riu Playacar July 17 2007(for 2 weeks) and are wondering if anyone knows when work starts on rebuilding the beach?
Also is anyone else going around this time who would like to meet up for drinks?
Look forward to any replies Nikki xx

Welcome to the board. Have you heard that they're going to or will they just wait and hope that Mother Nature repairs the damage. Some of the resorts have put the whales out, for whatever reason Rius appear to have chosen not to. The storms from the southeast will come.

this is the reply i got from the hotel

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your e-mail. The beach itself is in good shape, it's the beach access that got damaged because of natural erosion. Since the beaches in Mexico are all government owned, the only thing we could do so far is place sandbags to prevent more damage. In march the government will start preventing more beach damage.

Please don't hesitate to contact us for any further information.

Best regards,

Management
Riu Playacar

Interesting. Yet I haven't seen any pictures of sandbags in front of the Playacar or the Palace Mexico. Good luck and we hope the sand comes back so we can return to the Riu Palace Mexico in Nov/Dec.

I was at the Riu Playacar in April. The E-mail said that the government would start preventing future dammage in March. As of April 8th, there were no sandabags in the water of the RIU but a few small sandbags were on the beach to allow us to go up and down the incline. There were sandbags in the water at the resorts on either side. They may be positively affecting the water flow to the RIU. When we were there I felt that the RIU Playcar had the better beach on the northern end of Playacar. Of course, The Yucatan and south had even better beaches at that time.

We just got back from Riu Palyacar yesterday. The beach area is fine. The hotel to our right had alot of erosion. They were filling sand bags. The sand is hot on your feet wore on the concrete.

thanks for the info

I was a little worried about the beach as my wife and I are going to be there the week of the 23rd. How was the rest of the resort? Any suggestions for us?

Thanks again

The resort was very nice. Rooms were nice each with small refrigerators filled with bottle water, soda, and corona beer. Free!!! We left $2 a day for the person who cleaned our room. We always had extra towels. Sometimes we only spend $6 a day. Pretty cheap.
The food at the restaurant was very good always something different. We didn't pay extra for the specialty restaurant, happy with the buffets.
Can use your cell phone there. First dial 001 then the area code & number, cheaper than buying a prepaid telephone card.
Did take a ride into town $5 each way for my wife & me. Nice time shopping.
We didn't go on tours, too hot sat around the pools all day.

Could you clarify that comment please. There's no extra charge for eating at the specialty restaurants at the Riu Playacar or any other Riu for that matter.

They had 3 specialty restaurants, you made reservations in advance. I think it was extra. We choose the buffets and always sat out on the terrace.

...no extra charges for the specialty restaurants at the riu's in pdc...sometimes they use the term ala carte to refer to those restaurants, and i think that leads to some confusion...you get to order off of a menu, BUT it is still included in your A/I package!...
