We leave for the Palladium White Sands in the Morning

Hello:
Just found this website.
My partner and I are staying at the Palladium White Sands Resort just outside of town.
Any things at the resort that are of particular interest or things that shoud ba avoided?

Is the collectivo the best way to get back and forth to town ? Cost? I think it is maybe 30 min from town?
It sounds like a pretty touristy town from what I have read. Is there anyplace that the locals shop for stuff ? That is not all touristy stuff?
We are looking forward to meeting new people this trip!
Anyone want to show us the area?
