I agree that he went overboard! Not a very good way to talk to your kid. However, I hear a lot of hurt in what he was saying. It may have been deserved if he had put it in a more respectful way. Not name calling and such...
Don't get me wrong, I am not defending what he said, just the reason for it. That is of course if it is true.

Alex is a terrible dad to leave that message for his 11 year daughter, actually doesn't deserve to have a child, but what about a mother who uses her child to get even in divorce and releases this to the press ? This business is private and doesn't have any place in the media. I heard on the radio when one of the lawyers was questionned about the tape, they remarked that it was not suppose to be public, the judge had sealed it. If the child is scarred by her dad's message, imagine how scarred she'll be when she realizes that everyone, friend, family and stranger now knows all the private matters and her mom is responsible for this, playing her anger out in the media. There are two guilty parties here, both mom and dad.

I agree. They have been battling over their daughter for years now. Ugly mess and the parents are to blame. Bassinger is equally unfit IMO.

Obviously, what he did was crappy. However, I think what Kim did by making this public is MUCH worse. How embarassing for that little girl. This will scar her way more than her dad's unwise rant at her and will last forever where a one-time rant would probably be soon forgotten. And... I think I have to forgive him for that, anyway. Even though I was the best mom I could be, I would shudder to think what I might have sounded like if someone was able to play back a couple of my rants on national television. I can't throw stones.

I would imagine every parent has said the same thing at some point in their child's life. If not, they deserve Parent of the Century!!

Ditto that.....that's just pathetic of Kim or whoever released that tape.

It makes me so mad, a friend recently left her husband after 24 miserable years of marriage and he is bad mouthing her to their 14 year old daughter now. Grow up, people!

I hadn't heard who released the tape. I just figured it was admitted as evidence, which is standard in a divorce/custody battle. If it was Kim, then shame on her. But, the fact that he called his daughter a "rude, thoughtless little pig" and that she didn't have the "brains or the decency as a human being" is very damaging. Unfortunately too many parents use their children as pawns in a divorce.

edit:when I took the time to actually read the story, instead of just listening to the tape, I see that it was leaked by Basinger and her attorney. God help that little girl.
