Need Cherry Tree Expert


My 20 year old Cherry tree devloped this fongus type mold about 3 years ago and its been killing like one trunk each year and it down to 2 trunks ,its still blooming and produceing fruit .

Seeking advice

25% chlorine bleach solution may solve your problem....one way or the other.....most likely, you hace borers that are killing your trunk, the lichen is probably harmless.......but you can kill it

Great repliy Sctx thats what the garden center suggested last year (slowed it down ) but didnt kill it . Thanks (you are all knowledgeable)

check for borers....look for small oozing holes in the trunk or limbs down to 1" in diameter, if you find any, you're pretty much screwed.......oozing holes are generally a bad thing

Usually by the time a tree is showing severe insect, bird or disease damage it's too late to do much. Sometimes the best action is to bite the bullet and cut it down. Make sure you plant another. If cut early after it showed terminal signs and replanted, a new tree would have been three years old by now. Take a look at www.treehelp.com for some good advice. Good luck.
