Mac Mini

I thinking of buying a Mac Mini to replace my PC. Anyone out there have any opinions about this system? The price ($599) seems pretty good. I'd probably spring for the 1 gig memory upgrade for $75.

Maybe a cliché but…"Once you go Mac you'll never go back"...Mac Mini is a nice setup for some less demanding applications. The more memory you get the better the performance.

I bought one last august and I love it. Here in the "north" it's quite a bit more money tho. So, for what you'd be paying...definately. It's a great system.

Yes! Mac minis are way cool. I would consider getting the upgraded model. It has the super drive/DVD burner. These are useful even if you aren't making movie DVD's as you can back up a heck of a lot more data than you can with a standard CD ROM.

Make sure you get a nice display too! But i wouldn't automatically spring for one of the Apple displays. You can usually find a similar monitor for less somewhere else

Been using a Mac mini for the last year and a half here as my main computer. No complaints. I would get the gig, though (even more necessary now than it was when I bought it, with programs growing all the time).

Thumbs up

I have been working for Apple selling computers for almost 5 years now. The vast majority of my customers that come to me for a mac mini end up with an iMac 17", especially if you are buying the upgraded one. It isn't that much more money, but it is a LOT more computer and has a nice screen.

I have nothing against the mini, but if you decide to go that route I would try to wait for when a newer model comes out. They are getting long in the tooth and are WAY overdue for a proceessor/memory upgrade.

Unfortunately we never know when that is going to happen. Apple keeps things pretty well under wraps when it comes to new product.

You will not be disappointed in a Mac, I promise!

We have the 20" iMac at home and I love it. I also work all day on a XP Dell, and it is fine also, but the Mac is my preference. There will be some things to get used to, but there are a lot of first person stories of people who have switched from Windows boxes to Macs, most are very to fairly happy.

Me too...I"m forced to use a PC at work because of lots of software that I use that is PC only. I'd take my 5 year old mac laptop to the 1 year old dell any day!

Seems like whenever I buy a computer, the new model comes out the next week.

...at the same price as the now surpassed model you just bought, which model is now being sold for 20-25% less than what you bought it for.

Am I right?
