Staying at Royal Hideway - How much cash to bring?

My husband and I will be staying at the Royal Hideaway Apri 30-May 4. Current plans are mainly relaxing in the sun with a book, although I definitely want to go in to town a couple of times. Obviously we won't need much cash at the Hideaway, but for other things, how much cash should one bring and how much can one rely on credit cards? Is it better to get Mexican money before one leaves or once we get to Mexico - and if so, where?
