Summer Vacation Plans?
Looking for ideas here. We have the first two weeks in August off, one week to do not much of anything and stick close to home (going to stain our deck, etc.)....and the other week we are undecided what to do, where to go. We could just take the boat fishing up north somewhere, but the fishing in August sucks here, so that would be a waste, besides I think I will be fished and camped out by then. Another thought was to head west and camp around Golden, BC or Fernie maybe, or Canmore- somewhere in the Rockies. My favourite idea so far though was to book a cheap flight to Los Cabos and stay at a little hotel in Cabo San Lucas .....found a United Flight that connects through Phoenix for $545 each total (great, from here) and a hotel for $560 for the week (Los Milagros, a block from the Giggling Marlin and Cabo Wabo.) Roosterfish are apparently biting then, which is the angle I am working on DH. Anyone been to Cabo in July or August, what's the weather like, it would be not as hot or humid as other places, right? Sayulita last August was too humid for me. Any input? So what is everyone here doing? |

I don't know if you can get cheap flights to Alaska, but that was one of the most enjoyable trips I've ever taken. Have you ever been there? We flew into Anchorage and spent a week touring around. Hiking, mtn biking, fishing, etc. We also went down to Kenai and took a day cruise through the fjords and saw whales, and other wildlfe. For lunch, they docked at a remote island with no power (only a huge grill) and served everyone fresh grilled salmon! I'd go back in a heartbeat. |

I was in Cabo in January and it was in the mid 70's. Can only guess that it will be hotter in August, but I do believe it's not very humid, though I could be wrong there too. It is on the Pacific so the water temp are cooler which means that the night will cool down beautifully...I use to live in Southern Calif so that is what I'm assuming will happen. I guess I'm really not giving you any definite information. Sorry. I did like Cabo. Have you been before?
We had decide not to make summer travel plans unless it is last minute because of the threat of hurricanes. But I've been traveling allot already this year so it's nice to be home for awhile. Do have to travel back to Calif. in June but since I do that at least every other month it's not a vacation. I'm am looking for a place to vacation come November but all I can think of is returning to Playa...what is it about that place? |

Andiline I see you are going to Easter Island. I've always wanted to go. I hope you post a trip report with pictures.
Easter Island is on my list of places to see before I die. Along with Machu Picchu, Petra, Taj Mahal, Red Square. Machu Picchu is the only one on the to consider list. My 72 yr old dad would like to see it and I'd love to go with him before he gets too old to be able to tackle it so am really considering it for the beginning of next year but we'll see. Dad is older but a handful. Healthy though and quite adventurous. |

And I can just encourage you to go with your Dad to Machu Picchu. Go as long as you are both able to. You never know what happens.

I've never been to Cabo, but went to Canmore last summer for 4 days. Lots to do and see around there. I think it is such a shame that we live so close and 2 of my kids had never seen the mountains until then. (I live close to Kindersley, but in Alberta, so not too far from you) This summer we are hoping to head to the States to see Mt Rushmore, Old faithful and whatever else we can come across in between.

Hey Josef
Alaska, no- never been, but would love to some day. No cheaper flights there, unfortunately. I was thinking an Alaskan cruise one day would be a good trip. No, we have never been to Cabo, but always wanted to see it- that is why we would like to go, and since we have vacation time we need to take anyway, that is why we were thinking of there in the summer, as it would be less hot than Playa or Ixtapa, etc. (whew, run-on sentence ).Quote:
A co-worker of mine went to Peru last year, they loved it. Said it was safe and really cheap. Quote:
We actually considered going down to Yellowstone or the Black Hills too, that is a possibility. Hey cuffed! Any good outlet shopping near you? Our new truck has a DVD player so the drive would be not TOO bad. I will PM jamesblonde when she gets back from her Playa trip. |
