let me know when you get back on the type of drinks they serve if any of the international type. I have a few in the group that enjoy their hometown drink by the beach. Have fun and enjoy, hope to hear from you soon.

Hey Tappy, Thanks for the info. We are looking at this resort for next June for a family trip of about 15 people. We LOVED the Quetzal this year, but some of the family need to have a little less expensive resort, AND we want snorkeling right off the beach, which the Quetzal did not have! We are primarily taking this trip to teach our nephews (10 & 12) to snorkel, so we were looking for a nice economical family resort with snorkeling right there. My In-laws have some mobility issues and the fact that it's on the small side, AND has elevators is a HUGE plus. We realize that it probably won't be quite as nice as the Quetzal, but we are not fussy at all and can't wait to take the family!!!

Mrs Fuzzmo, My wife and I just returned from the"CAT" 5/10-5/17. We enjoyed this resort much more than the Tucan/Quetal where we stayed last time. The resort is not the "marble" palace that the Tucan is, but then again ,maybe that is for the better because I found walking at the Tucan/Quetal very slippery in places. If it is snorkeling you want, then the Cat is where it's at! There are tons of fish right in their own private lagoon or you can go ocean side, right in front of the hotel for one of the largest reefs around. We got some great shots while there. Had 2 stingrays and a 4 foot baracuda only 6-7 feet away. Here is a tip taught to us by one of the guides on the "Fat Cat" catamaran trip we took:- If you tap with your finger tips on the top of your underwater camera, it attracts the fish like a magnet and you will soon be surrounded with literally hundreds of fish. This resort far exceeded my expectations after have been at the Tucan/Quetal. The food was just as good (not as great a selection) and the speciality restaurants were better in my opinion. You can't beat the LeCreperi for there deserts either. The beach is just as good as T/Q but there are areas where you might require beach shoes on the reef areas. We took beach shoes and they remained in the beach bag almost the entire 8 days. The water is so clear you can plainly see were the reefs are and sand is.Like Tappy, we will make this the resort of choice again soon. This was the best time on the Riviera Maya we had so far.

It prices out really well...plus the fact that you can walk to Puerto Adventuras if you need a break AND the free shuttle to Playa.
We have been to the Bahia and Barcelo and the Cat is our favorite. I will be sure and take lots of pics !!! |

Would love to meet up with you guys at the Cat. I will be working on my trip report and some pics this weekend, I am detoxing right now. I also came down with this sun rash thingy that caused me to swell up and look like a big red marshmellow. I think it was to much sun and drinkies that caused my lily white skin to go in to shock. But we had a great time and are all ready thinking about the next time.

Tappy--I can't wait to hear about your trip. We are going July 10-17 and can't wait. Did you get the new suite on the beach?

Glad to hear that it was nice. I'm a little disappointed that it doesn't have a beach view. I thought it did. Can't wait to see your pix!

I did not miss the view (because the rooms were that nice) - we stayed out on the beach/pool till dark anyway and in the morning I was out on the beach doing my morning walk. |
