If you know which one I'm talking about and where it is, can you let me know? You will save me the embarrassment of making a new post on changarros about my lack of "search" skills... ![]() |

El Cejas
I wanted to chime in some props for this place too. I had an awesome seafood empanada there for lunch. No one there spoke a word of english on the day I was there. It was great, it felt like Mexico. El Fogon was the same way. My spanish isn't that great but it was sure fun to use it. BTW, have you ever noticed that if you are the only one in your party that can speak spanish everyone is constantly staring at you for a translation of what the waiter said, even when he/she was speaking english? Maybe my party drinks too much.

Is there A must ON 5th?
OK, I'll admit it; I am a food nerd. I'm that person you see taking the sea salt and pepper grinders out of her purse at the restaurant. I take notes on the food, I might even take pictures of the food. I might return from vacation with nothing but pictures of the food. It doesn't have to be fancy for me, it just has to be good - or at least as good as it cost.
I've never eaten anything on 5th that was any better than completely adequate or thoroughly mediocre. I've had some good meals quite close to 5th, but none that I'd describe as good on 5th. I've had some terrific drinks on first. Maybe if I'd had the drinks first I'd have thought that the food was better. Off the top of my head, I like la Pesca, El Fogon, HCM, Pastorcitas, Dr. Taco, and of course, the Bloody Chicas. If I could have any of those in my neighborhood at home, I'd be in hog heaven. |

Give the Biergarten a shot! Ruthie comes from a family of German folk...and I mean STILL German with all the accents, language and FOOD (recipes, etc...) So I'm looking forward to being there next time we're down. And to the Swedish meatballs dish at Babe's. We have our usual places, too.... Last edited by cuffedlinks : 07-04-2007 at 02:43 PM. |

El Fogon on 30th and 28th
Luckily for me a whole bunch of girls were hungry the other night and so I escorted them to you guessed it El Fogon. Great food, instant service and value.
On Sunday night I went to a birthday gathering with a whole bunch of friends to celebrate a birthday at a different Tacos place across the road. Sure it was fun b/c of the people. I waited probably 40 mins for three tacos El pastor. The smoke comming out of the kitchen reminded me of riding on the roofs of trains in India when we went into tunnels... Ok it was cheap. Thank god Daddy B bought a fab cake to round out the celebration. The moral of the story, you want tacos, go El Fogon everytime. |
