Grand CoCo Bay Report

Hi everyone, my husband and I just returned from our first trip to PDC. I just wanted to post a quick report on Grand CoCo Bay ( I'll try to post a full trip report with pics later) We stayed at Grand CoCo Bay from April 28th-May 4th. On April 28th we arrived at the resort...we were not entirely impressed with the hotel as we were pulling up to the entrance...it didn't look as nice on the outside as some of the other resorts had. Bell boy comes and gets our luggage and we go to the desk to check in....we were greeted with a glass of champagne..how nice. We had no problems checking in couple of hours early..which was great because I was a little worried about that. We get to our room and check it out for a minute...it was a basic room....clean with no frills and fancies...very consistant with the pictures from the internet...we had a nice garden and pool view from our balcony....the grounds were very nice with lots of plants and trees and pretty grass. We throw on our swimsuits and head straight to the pool area to check everthing out...the pool was nice and clean and there were plenty of lounge chairs and umbrellas around. The swim up bar was open ( I had read that it was not open in someone elses report) Then we walked down to the beach to check it out, very nice wide beach with very soft sand.....plenty of beach chairs everywhere. The ocean view was great....however, there are quite a few boats that are parked out in front of the resort...Sometimes I enjoyed looking at the boats and sometimes I wished there weren't there. To the left there is a long stretch of beach with no hotels, boats or anything on it...that was a good place to take a stroll. We also did some snorkeling down on that side too and actually saw some cool fish. There is a reef right in front of the resort...my husband swam out to the reef and took some nice pictures of the different fish and of the reef...I think he said a lot of the reef looked like it was dying but it was still something to see ( I tried to swim out there too but the wind and water was a little choppy that day so I decided to turn around and swim back) We ate at the italian restaurant one night and thought it was very good (you have to make reservations for the 2 restaurants when you go to breakfast in the morning) We actually ate at the buffet a lot and liked it. Each night at the buffet is a different theme of food...like oriental, carribean (our fav), mexican, BBQ, ect. Breakfast was pretty good...there was always fresh fruits, fruits juices, cereals, breads and pastries....there were made to order omelets and eggs and meats too. There were a few questionable items on the breakfast buffet but it was still fun to try the different foods. The service at the hotel was great, the staff was always eager to serve us and help in any way. Overall, we had a great time at the resort and would book there again. My only complaint was that our room was right across the hall from the "cleaning closet" so we were awakened by the staff every morning at like 5:30am as they were getting ready to work. This resort is very casual and not a luxury resort in any way. For the price though it was a great deal for us and we did not feel like we had to stay on the resort the whole time to get out moneys worth...in fact we were at excursions or 5th ave almost everyday we were there.
Well I hope this report will be helpful to anyone who will be going to Grand CoCo soon!

Crissyhawk, We stayed at GCB twice and really love it for it's size and the location and beach. I agree with you everyone there was so nice. Do you know if Kim in guest services is still there?
We just booked for October of this year, can hardly wait!
