Question?-Catalonia Riviera Maya

Hey only 4 days to go! I have a question about the room safes. I saw in a post somewhere that there is "no" charge for the room safes if you are booked through Apple Tours. Does anyone know if this is true and if not what is the charge for a weeks stay? If it is a perk from Apple then do you let the Apple rep at the resort take care of this or do you just tell the front desk that you are booked through Apple and they take care of it?

When we stayed at Catalonia Tulum I think they were charging $3.00 per day. Nothing too crazy.

We booked funjet last time and were charged for the safe. It was not much -about $10 for the week.

Apple pays for the safes at other resorts so that may be correct.

Have fun and takes lots of pics.

We are going in June. Cant wait.

Say Hi to Manuel (the bartender) for me !!

Thanks TAPPY. I will be sure to take lots of pics and post in a trip report . I know I read it somewhere in a review or post. May have been on "trip advisor" . I just can't seem to locate it again. I do remember the poster saying the safes were free when booking with Apple. I guess I'll find out in 4 more days if know one answers this post that has a definitive answer.Oh and I will be sure to say Hi! to Manuel for you.

I really don't know if they're free if you booked with Apple, never actually knew that this hotel charged for the safes regardless of who you booked through! (and no matter what AI hotel we're talking about, an extra charge for the safe is SO dumb IMHO ).

Anyway, the hotel knows what company you're booked with, you don't have to tell them "Apple", or "Funjet" or whatever the case may be. You can inquire during check in if there will be a charge for the safe, my guess is they'll tell you - but if not - it'll show up on your check out bill if there was a charge. As Tappy said, room safe fees aren't a lot, certainly not going to make enough of a difference that you would choose not to use it if you had planned on it.

ok Shammy, thanks for the input. Yeh it really doesn't make sense to me either that there would be a charge anyway for an AI resort. And if there is, it won't change anything with the decision to get a pin key. I just didn't know if the front desk would automatically take care of this, or if I would have to get the Apple rep. at the resort to handle this matter. Like you stated they already know who I booked through and should make the proper adjustments at the front desk. Thanks again. (In my mind I'm already sitting with toes in the water, Margarita in one hand and a Corona in the other!)

Thanks Tappy. We will do just that and I hope you all have an equally good time as I see you will be following us shortly. I can already taste those frozen Margaritas. I can't see how anyone would not have a great time in the Riviera Maya.

Free safe in the suites at the Catalonia Riviera Maya

We stayed at the Catalonia Riviera Maya in March-- and LOVED it-- we are happy for you that you are headed there! Enjoy!

We stayed in one of their suites, and use of the in-room safe was free. I would hope it would be free regardless of room type, unless this was a special thing because it was a suite. Not sure.

Have a lovely trip!

We've stayed at the Catalonia Riviera Maya for the past 3 years and I can tell you that they do charge $3 per day if you want access to the safe. If you don't want it you don't have to pay. When you pay a down payment (I think you actually pay in full plus $10 extra) you get a little peg that you insert into the safe which then allows you to be able to set up a code to open/close the safe. When you return the peg at the end of the stay you get your $10 back. This year when we were checking out it was very chaotic and they forgot to take the peg back, so if we go there next year we'll just bring it along. Usually they are pretty careful about getting it back, but we had a couple of different people help us and I think they assumed they other person had collected the peg.
Edited for font size - sorry it was so large!!

MNSwede, Did you book through Apple Vacations? I'm still trying to find out if they pick up the safe? You see they advertise that everything(that means everything) is included in there packages. They are usually pretty forthright on this matter and I did read somewhere(probably on another forum) that they did pick this up. I'll find out for sure I guess tomorrow.

OK Tappy we will be sure to post pics and a report when we return. We are really considering an upgrade when we get there. Want to check out the standard rooms first and see what the differences are as we really do not spend much time in our room anyway when we are on vacation. Well this will be my last post before trying to get some sleep(yeah right!). Let you all know how things went when we return. Audios amigos. Buenos noches.

If it was just the two of you - I say a standard room would be fine. I have heard the upgrades go for $25 to $35 per day. The reason we upgraded was so the kiddo could have her own space and we will be there for 9 days. (I could case less about the mini frig, but some people like that sort of thing)

Have a great time....
