Good vegetarian joints in playa?

Hola, amigos-

This will be my first time in Playa. Can't wait!

I can see my husband is going to love all the pork tacos and other fare in PDC... but are there any good vegetarian joints? How about Yaxche (can someone sound that out for me - how do you pronounce it properly?!) will I have any luck there?

Barring veggie joints - it looks like I can get fresh fish at most places if I have to go that route, is that the case?

Recommendations? Thoughts?

Thanks!

Yaxche..
yosh-CHAY is how I've heard it.
Mostly.

Vegetarian...
I think a few local folks have commented.

I'll see if I can find a couple of quick search links for you to click on.

If you're a vegetarian you will have to explain that you don't eat egg noodles, only rice noodles, for example.

no meat - no carne
no pord - no puerco
no chicken - no pollo
no lard - no manteca
cheese - queso
butter - mantequilla
eggs - huevos

I suspect that La Cueva del Chango will become a favorite of yours. It has great genuine Mexican food (the homemade tortillas alone are worth a visit) and many veggie choices - and a beautiful jungle setting! Babe's on 10th Street and Media Luna on 5th Ave are both good places to go for vegetarian and Café Tropical on 5th Ave makes a rocking falafel in pita, among many other veggie things.

Just about anything on the menu at Babe's Noodles can be prepared meatless, with or without tofu. And Maktub restaurant, which is middle eastern fare, is also great for vegetarians.

100% Natural is great! Excellent fresh healthy vegetarian food with lots of choices. (I eat dairy but no meat/fish) The one in Playa had really good fresh squeezed juice drinks- with your choice of alcohol if desired. (I don't remember alcohol at the Cancun locations) I'm going to try and visit the location in Tulum this next trip. Here's the website-

I'm the same kind of vegetarian, and I've never had a problem finding vegetarian food down there. I've found there are usually 2-3 items on most menus that I can eat, and often times more.

I love Dr. Taco's vegetarian taco's and burritos...yummy!

there's also a new veg restaurant I noticed before I left - Bodega 22 on Calle 22 between Av 5 and 10. Anyone tried it?
