Need help from Dallas experts!
Anybody have a good link to a map of Dallas (downtown area)? I'm was reading the thread about a peep meet in Dallas and my head is spinning. I leave Thursday for girls weekend in Dallas.
We are staying at the Hyatt downtown Dallas and I'm trying to figure out where to go for shopping/dinner/drinks. My girl friend has only lived in the Dallas burbs for about a year and doesn't know the area very well. We are both 39 (ok - one of us is 40 and in denial) and looking for some time away from kids to shop and catch up. I keep trying to compare areas of Dallas to Denver, but from what I hear Dallas is so much Bigger! I'd like to find an area similar to Cherry Creek North or other cute/upscale neighborhood shopping areas. Good wine bars and people watching suggestions too. Knox/Henderson Street - one friend suggested this area - thoughts? How far from the Hyatt? Thanks for your help!

Unless 'he' got lucky and managed to finagle his way into a Girls Weekend. I've visited Dallas alot, but not familiar with where to go. I do like to shop at Sam Moon...but that is off of Henry Hines Blvd. I also like Javier's for dinner. |

Yes.
Try your local AAA Club office. As a Triple-A member I get triptiks often which include maps of the city, and state books with all the hotel/restaurant/entertainment options. They're quite nice and a nice perk along with the towing and flat/starting services, etc... I think they're available to non-members, just not free. OR if you know a member of Triple-A you could have them request one for you. |

It sounds like you would really like the Uptown area. You can hop in a cab from downtown or you could take the trolley. The hotel knows where you can catch the trolley. Uptown is actually walking distance from downtown but the weather will knock you on your butt. Its very humid and hot right now. Tell the hotel you want to go to West Village of of McKinney Ave in Uptown. Tons of outdooor shopping and eating. If your friend is driving just make sure they are familiar with the area as there are alot of one way streets. Dallasites love to sit on patios and drink and eat so if the weather is good you will be able to do alot of people watching. Sorry I can't help you with a map. The area is changing by the day, and I am not kidding when I say this. The Whotel just went up, the Ritz is going up along with the Manderian Hotel all with in eye shot of one another. Let me know if you need anymore info on this area, I've lived hear for many many many years. Matter of fact, I'm going to the Gingerman in a couple of hours for HH, is a beer bar with a great front back and upstairs patio. Yes even in this sticky weather we like to be outside

try this. Most of the good upscale shopping is north of town. If you like upscale stores like Neiman Marcus, etc.. then Northpark would be the closest. If you prefer the outlets...then Grapevine Mills, near the airport. Uptown has alot of cutesy shops and restuarants, but not any real major department stores. |

Thanks for all of the tips- It sounds like Uptown would be great. We'll check out the trolley too. I like the cutesy shops more than the big malls/outlets.
The Gingerman sounds great too, especially sitting outside with cocktails. Believe it or not, I'm looking forward to the humidity. The dry air in Denver drives me crazy. I grew up in Iowa, so I'm used to humidity. Thanks again! |

Eventhough Sam Moon may appear to be far, it really isn't too far from downtown and it's pretty easy to get to. You really should see it. You won't believe what you can buy there. I have never seen more jewelry or purses for sale in all my life! As a former Dallasite (Duncanville), have a great time! If you need directions to Sam Moon, PM me. Christy |

There is a nice wine bar in West Village, I can't think of the name but its the only one. It opens up so even if you sit inside you feel like you are outside. There is an Italian rest. 2 Mexican food rest. a noodle rest. a Starbucks and Pauccigos(sp). Shopping there is a Anne Taylor, Gap, Bananna Republic, Polo, that Curious George looking store, one or two other big name brands, then there are several small boutique stores( thats what I like). Across the street walking distance is East Village more boutique shops and cafes. Enjoy your visit.
