No Opportunity Wasted - what's your top 5 list?

I'm sure a lot of people know of Phil Keoghan, the host of The Amazing Race. He is actually quite an amazing guy (not to mention nice to look at!). He has written a book, created a philosophy of sorts of which a new reality series has been based called NOW - No Opportunity Wasted. Basically, it comes down to "turning thought into action. No more shoulda, coulda, woulda. Think big, challenge yourself, ditch the excuses, ... live life NOW."

As a bit of a background to Phil from the website, " his motivating energy began after a near-death experience while scuba diving in an underwater shipwreck in his native New Zealand. He was 19. After the shock Phil reflected on where he was at and on how precious life is. He sucked in the oxygen and the next day went back to the wreck and repeated his nearly fatal dive. He also began to write a list of all the things he wanted to achieve before he died. As he worked through the initial list of 100 Things To Do, other lists evolved, which he did too. This has led to a life filled with adventure and few regrets."

I have decided to apply to the Canadian version of his show. (http://www.noopportunitywasted.ca/). I applied online and will attend his book-signing and in-person application process next Wednesday when he will be in Vancouver. For many, many years I have wanted to do some sort of aid work with less fortunate or poverty stricken children...I have always felt that something was leading me in that direction, but have never acted on it...so this is my chance.

Phil recommends everyone make a "List for Life"...a list of things you want to accomplish before you die. Then he says once your list is on paper, it is time to start chasing after it.

So what would be your top 5 on YOUR list?

Phaw. That's a toughie.

Hm. As you spoke about evolving lists...I would make one with things that are not too far off......for a start.

1. Finish my studies with the best grades I can achieve to have good job opportunities.

2. Finish my dissertation and make it one that is really good.

3. Work with people in countries in need at one point- this one depends on the speciality I choose in the end though.

4. Stop smoking, dammit!!!!!

5. Go to live in another country again- no specifics set for this one, just warm and with water, that's all I ask for.

I saw the ad for that show the other day, looks like it'll be good.

I have a list of about 20-30 things that I want to see and do.

So far I have done these from the list:

- seen the Twin Towers and went to the top of the Empire State Building.
-
rode on the London Eye/Milennium Wheel, and saw St. Pauls Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, and the British Museum.

- been whitewater rafting (soon to be twice! )

- Scuba diving (more to come, one thing on my list is to dive near a whale shark one day).

- climbed Kulkucan at Chichen Itza (also the grand pyramid at Coba).

I also want to do these yet before I die :

- go to the Galapagos Islands and Easter Island.

- see the Coliseum... and the Parthenon.... and the Eiffel Tower.

- see Cairo and the Egyptian pyramids, and also Macchu Piccu and Angkor Wat.

- climb beside the Great Wall in China.

- skydive.

and I would like to write a book....I think I have one (or three or four) in me....some day.

1. Fight in the UFC or Pride
2. Be a hero to my family
3. See the wonders of the world
4. Learn some other languages fluently
5. To enjoy my life by not letting stress, wants and pressure dominate me.

Done bungie jumping, done sky diving, did a little traveling but not nearly enough, having a child, have my black belt (and then some), have a degree, have a career (sorta I guess, lol), worked for Disney, did plenty of partying...Big things I guess would be to conquor my demons, travel and be a great husband and father mainly...But fighting in that calaber of competiton would be totally awesome!

Here's mine as it stands now, although it changes frequently, in no particular order:

-Learn German and study/get a degree at the Weihenstephan brewery University in Freising, Germany. [as much as I joke about beer and brewing, i'm serious about this]

-Tour Germany (again), and also do Belgium, Ireland, and Prague [doing more than looking at breweries ].

-Live in another country for a few years (haven't decided which).

-Make, maintain or rekindle friendships with those that don't live near me.

-Do extended mission work both in the US and somewhere abroad.

wow, this is kind of depressing......I have no grand aspirations ....money and material collections mean very little to me and always have......don't know if I can even come up with 5 things here.......

1. Spend one day a month doing someting with my dad. We've been talkin about goin bay fishing for over a year now and still haven't done it. He's 77 and lives 35 minutes away, the coast is a 2 1/2 hour drive from here.......very "Cat's in the Cradle".....very scary

2. Continue to work so i can look forward to coming home to Lil G every afternoon

3. Hug my Mom a million more times

4. Continue to stay in touch with friends old and new, continue to find cheesy excuses for throwdown parties that scare college kids

5. Just one night w/ Salma (non-preggo Salma that is)

Live in Paris.

Rent a boat to snorkel around Saba. That island sounds so neat.

Be a worker in a national political campaign.

See my daughter perform opera professionally to standing ovations.

Spend as long as it takes to do my own "Travels with Charley" -- America, coast to coast, border to border.

Here are the first 5 that pop into my head (in no particular order and just five of many "things to do before I die")

1. Dance with my husband at both sons' weddings (each one having married women I adore and respect)
2. Witness perfect, full totality of a solar eclipse
3. Jump out of an airplane (and live - injury free - to tell the tale)
4. Tour India for at least one full month
5. Meet a President of the US (preferrably one I voted for)
