Anyone know anything about Big Bear Lake, Ca.?
I know this is kind of strange to be asking on a playa site, but does anyone know anything about Big Bear Lake, Ca. I just got a cabin for a weekend for a family trip and can't seem to find out much about restuarants or stuff to do in summer. If anybody has any info or knows a place that I can find some I'd appreciate it. Thanks

I went to Big Bear a couple of years ago with my son. We went in the middle of April and there was still snow
As a matter of fact we had a freak storm drop a foot while we were there! It doesn't snow in So Cal in April!! As far as things to do, it's a real chill kind of place. Not a lot of nightlife. Summer activities generally are hiking and boating/fishing. I used this web site to get information. http://www.bigbear.com |

Ruthie's sister and her hubby (My SIL and BIL) had a cabin in Big Bear for years, until just recently...they never used it and mostly just rented it out...
She said thay have a nice community there, restaurants won't be a problem.. Ruth spent some tme there with them, hiking and such. There are THE biggest pine cones you could imagine there...like big pineapples... Take some, bring them home and put them in your best Longaberger basket. |

Sugarcones are huge and sometimes quite sappy. You may want to choose the cones that are well-dried (light tan)
![]() The town has plenty of restaurants and shopping, and the lake has plenty of water activities. There are many hiking trails, a museum, petting zoo and horsebackriding areas. Keep an eye out for wild burros. I haven't seen any bears there for many years...

Thanks for th ideas. I think that we are going to go to Moonridge Zoo, it's just down the street from the cabin. And the boys will probably try to do some fishing. I don't do fishing I feel bad watching the fish flop around.
I'm so excited about this trip! i got the weekend rental at a silent auction for my sons preschool. It's a 4 bedroom, 2 bath. sleeps 12. Pool table Jaquzzi, stainless steel appliances. I got it for $220! This will be a family trip unlike playa. No kids on that one! i just want to make sure that it's the best trip that I can make it for the boys. |

I haven't heard any mention of Longaberger baskets in 10 years (thank goodness). |
