I didn't try enough restaurants to give you a lot of recommendations, but....
Ah Cacao - best brownies and extremely scrumptious croissants and lattes - my favorite breakfast while I was there. Best meal I had - Babe's. I waited until my last night there to try it, because I was thinking "Noodles??? In Playa???" But I had garlic and pepper dorado (awesomely delicious) with equally delicious veggies. Very reasonably priced as well. Beer Bucket and Bad Boyz seemed the friendliest bars. Fast service, very friendly waitresses, and nice owners. The bar by Siesta Fiesta had live music every night - sometimes great, sometimes so-so, but very, very bad service. The waiters would run right up to big groups of people at tables right next to mine and to gorgeous 20-somethings, and I could sit there for 30 minutes or more without a drink. Last time, I went to the bar thinking at least the bartender is right there, and again, I asked for a drink and got it, but as soon as gorgeous babes came up, he never came near me again. I'm not twenty, but I'm not hideous either, AND I tip well, so.... It was very dis-heartening. "Oh my God, am I an ogre?" So I'd leave there and go somewhere friendly, even though I really enjoyed the music. Retro has a good sound system, comfy seats, a dance floor, and music that I like, nice waiters too. But it was mostly empty every time I went there. It doesn't look like it will last long, unfortunately. Om was fun - noisy, trendy, hookah smoking available. Good, friendly service, but VERY expensive drinks. I had fun at Mamita's too. Good waiters, decent food. Same with El Pirata at the beach. Cool bartenders, good drinks. More later, when it all comes back to me. HAVE A BLAST! |

For evening dining I would recommend Chicago Don Jose. During our recent April vacation we ate there and the food was great and the owners really added to our enjoyment. I had the Lithuanian Ravioli, my wife had blackened Grouper and our son and his friend had the ribs. Great variety tot he menu and each item was well prepared.
We also dined at the Casa Mediterranea and enjoyed it. Their pastas and fish are excellent. For lunch I found the shrimp tacos at Dr. Tacos were the best I had during our stay. These are only a few. Part of the fun is walking around PDC and just trying a restaurant that looks good. The only place I would avoid is Los Rancheros. We liked the restaurant, but the food did not measure up. Enjoy. |
