Well- what he did clearly shows the direction he is headed and it also shows that in the future critics there will more and more have to watch their back not to end up like those in Russia, I suppose.
At least folks there are still able and allowed to protest........which doesn't mean things aren't going in the wrong direction.

From what I understand RCTV wasn't much to lose, but to restrict the freedom of speech is not a good thing. But having license agreements for television and radio (as we have in Norway too) has many advantages.

One would hope this might be the start of a rallying call to get rid of the Chavezs of the world... Or at least a wake up call to the other countries of the world to watch out for the people they vote into office, or the Generals running the military side of things looking to advance...

Do I understand by this that you are in favor of a military coup similar to the last one in Venezuela that the US supported? Why do you think democracy is not a worthwhile endeavor?

Right up until said elected, changes the rules to be leader for life, completely recinds all existing contracts with American (and foreign) companies on a whim, privitizes oil, gas, hospitals, banks, steel and any other institution that makes money, and then closes any TV station he feels threatened by.

Or as the left would put it "true democracy in action"

I wonder what year the Venezuelan oil was nationalized? Could it have been 1975? It is relatively common for nationalistic governments to renegotiate leases on natural resources. Having had family members who worked and lived in Venezuela, I am pleased to see the government there doing something for the poor. It seems to me the US support for coups in the region has frequently had the effect of radicalizing the political situation.

You'd hope the iron curtain was too rusty to put up again.

Shall we wave goodbye?

I wonder how many will end up in Playa with bags of cash before the doors close?

After Iraq, I think those who are interested in democracy should put a little more interest in their own endeavors before the US has to get involved.
