Goosebuster
We are having a severe problem with geese coming on our lake beach. I found a product called Goosebuster. It is setup with 4 speakers that emits a random sequence of distress calls that are actual recordings of geese in the wild. Is anyone familiar with this product and does it work. If you would like to read about it. www.birdx.com

If you are open to adopting a dog, you could opt for a border collie or australian shepherd. A lot of golf courses around my area use them to keep geese off the greens.
You could also find out if your nighbors are feeding the geese, and try to get a local ordinace passed making it illegal to do so. |

Sorry I can't help you...although a Canada goose couple both nipped at me this past Sunday at the zoo when I came too close to their goslings. (I wasn't harassing them, I was just walking by on the path!
) Those bastards can be mean! But I have to say this title is cute, and every time I have seen it today I hear the theme from Ghostbusters...who ya gonna call? GOOSEBUSTERS! ![]() |

I worked at a golf course with a major goose problem. There are a couple of potential solutions. Go to an agriculture store, and get some bird bombs. I'm not sure if they are legal to use where you live, so you'll have to do some research. However, they eventually become immune to the bang or whistle sounds. Another thing we did is buy those construction road sign flashers. They irritate the bird, but yet again, they will get used to them. Dogs work the best, but must be used frequently. Check if there are any local hunt clubs that are looking for places to train their dogs. Offer your place out. Just a few suggestions.

BTW, how do they decide who will lead the formation? Do they have a mass predeparture briefing? "OK Bob, it's your turn to lead today...remember... honk continuously and wait until you see a gray GMC pickup before you deficate! Oh and Jim will try to break away with three or four others...let them go...eventually they will realize they're idiots and try to catch up...don't slow down for them...it's much more amusing that way!" ![]() |

I can tell you, this solution is effective and also feeds the guests Beyond that, we work the goose problem regularly here....first, reduce goose friendly habitat wherever possible....they like big fields of fresh grass with easy access to water....limit their access to the water via plantings..this helps...hire a friendly dog like Buddy to chase them....plunk them with BB guns to annoy them....and learn to enjoy them..... ![]() ( PS..we once bought an "anti-goose windmill"..supposedly the geese would be afraid of it for some reason...it is an interesting story to tell our guests now as the geese munch the sweet new grass shoots under the windmill... )Last edited by Jacko : 05-29-2007 at 06:07 PM. |

I know an old guy who had a large garden. One year, he told me, he put a radio out there with rock and roll music on loud (he lived out in the country). He said it worked pretty well.
He did the same thing the next year. He said the birds took to organizing dances that year and invited all their bird buddies ![]() |
