Palm Desert info

Hi all,
I am going to Palm Desert in July for the annual family trip. Was wondering if any of you peeps have any info in the area-of course I am mainly interested in food, but any suggestions are welcome

We are going to San Diego for a day for a Padres/Braves game so any suggestions in or around the area would be great as well

Hotter than heck in July! (Can we say 105-110°) Be careful when you are out and drink plenty of water! Plenty of very nice restaurants there of various fares. Palm Desert caters towards folks who are well off. Plenty of retirees. Lots of golf courses. Plenty of shopping and casinos nearby. Newer community.

Hey Chris!!!!
You might head over to the Gaslight district for drinks and a nice lunch or dinner. It's touristy but fun. You'll find some nice restaurants there.

You will love San Diego in July, it's so pleasant. The game will take your day away if it is during the day. If the game is at night, then there is so much to do in San Diego, I don't even know where to start. You can shop at Horton Plaza or go to Old Towne (which is mostly Mexican flair, alot of history, a museum, a haunted house) it's an excellent day trip. Or try going into the GasLamp Quarter if you have time. Or Mission Bay is nice if you want to take a boat ride, they also have a Boardwalk there. OMG, where do I stop??
Don't get a wild hair and travel into Mexico (Tijuana), unless you know what you are doing or where to go.

Hi Chica!!
Thanks for the input. I wish we had more time to be in San Diego, but I will keep that in mind for a cocktail or two!

Keep going down the 1-D (the toll road) down to Ensenada. Or, Rosarito also has nice beaches.

Palm Springs has the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, which will take you from heat that would kill a gila monster up to the mountains where the temperature is kinda sorta tolerable by human beings.

If you have kids, San Diego has one of the country's best zoos and the Wild Animal Park.

yup...it's going to be hotter than hell. if you are lucky, you might even experience 115 degree plus temperatures. of course, someone will always tell you.."but it's a DRY heat!". well, so ain't an oven!! the only place a bit more miserable than the Palm Springs area would be Lake Havasu, which is just as hot, if not hotter but you can also add in a bit of humidity. if you want to escape the heat, you can do the TRAM thing or take a ride up the PALMS to PINES highway to Idyllwild. if i am not mistaken, it's route 74 and is not far from Palm Desert or La Quinta.
When you are there, say hi to my cousin. Whoops...sorry....he died last year.

Hey Chris,

Hope all is well. Well, as Jerry says it'll be hot but I bet that doesn't keep you from having a good time.

A good friend of mine in the office has a sister in that area and they go to the Desert Hot Springs Spa hotel to relax, very cheap to get a day pass and they have all kinds of spa services, I think you can rent one of the hotel rooms for the day too. Check out the website at dhsspa dot com.

Hope you have a good trip and enjoy that "Dry" heat

I got that Jerry!!! Medjool dates or the little ones that look like cockroaches. I would say that to annoy my mom and my aunt while they were eating small dates. I forgot what the little ones are called.
How's the hairdo. It's Summertime and you would look great!!! That is, if you have not done so already.
