Choosing between Occidental Allegro, Flamenco, or Gala???
We will be honeymoonin' on May 12-16 in Playa... am set for El Dorado Royale, but after reading a few of your posts and doing more research I have decided to change AIs. Of the three that I have available to me are Occidental Allegro Playacar, Gala Resort Playacar, and Occidental Flamenco Xcaret. We would like to be close to Playa Del Carmen to eat at some of the retaurants(I know it defeats the purpose of an AI!!) and check out the nightlife and culture of the village. We also want a nice beach to hang out on that is not public or too crowded for that matter. Any suggestions, thoughts??

AI's
First off you need to know all beach areas, all over Mexico are public. They belong to the government, and anyone can be on the beaches.
AI's are different, in food quality, drinks...etc. yet quite a bit the same in policy. I had a very bad experience with the only AI I have ever stayed at. It was The Allegro. Our room had major problems...plumbing, ac, insects. The food was less then average, and it was the same thing over and over. Also it sat in a buffett, (never could spell,) on the second floor of a non ac room. Can only imagine the microbs mingling. The most frustrating was the lack of love, (as James would put it,) the staff had for the customers. Service was non-existant...and I'm a big tipper! Again as James refers to, the time scare thing was taken to a new level for me. I did not do a presentation, but three or four times a day I was invaded by time share sales persons. They were very aggressive, even physical, several times they actually grabbed me by the arm, shirt sleve etc. Search this sight...lots of information here...I have seen excelent reviews of AI's here. |

Honeymoon?
Just keep in mind, the Allegro Playacar is a very old resort...We stayed there in '96 & '97 and it was in need of renovation then...But, it didn't stop us from having a great time...Would we go back again?...No!
The Gala is very well known as a family resort but has one of the best beaches in Playacar and is only a 5 minute cab ride from town... The Flamenco is the newest of the 3 but a little further away from PDC... Have a great time wherever you go  ... LIZ |
