HP - Any Opinions?
My oldest son bouight an HP notebook (laptop) yesterday. Was $1199 with $400 rebate.
Moving back to Manhatten and basically just wants it for internet, e-mail and music functions. Now his GF's father is telling him that he made a bad choice buying an HP. Any opinions from notebook users? Also opinions on Norton antivirus (which is the one he purchased)? |

We have used norton for a long time and no problems . Also no viris problems at all since we started using them. As for the notebook if that is all he is using it for he should be ok. We have an hp printer that we have had lots of issues with but also a hp fax/copier that works great.

My mother in-law always brings numerous bottles of HP for us when she comes from Belfast. In fact, my daughters will not eat eggs or sausages without HP. |

What ever brand of AV you use, INSTALL ONE. The more features the better.
HP/Compact is a reliable brand of laptops, but.... If you are just a casual user, why get that expensive of a model? Good luck on the rebate, I'm still pissed at Toshiba. I saw simple laptops for $500 at walmart last night. If you don't need serious gaming or heavy processing, why get more? IMHO ![]() |

Thie post brought to you by an HP laptop - we have 2 and they have been great! Now, I will never own another HP printer, but that's another story....... We, too, removed Norton....you can get the job done with something more simple - Norton is quite invasive and is a bit of a resource hog, IHMO. You might not notice it on a new computer but you will on an older system. I'm running all AVG free stuff right now and no complaints or problems - been almost a year now.

I always thought they were the same, though, but I don't know. The label says it is imported. I did hear they were no longer making it in the UK, but somewhere else now?![]() |

My computer guru (none other than JimmyMN
) says HP is crapola. I think he'd tell ya that anyway - and that Dell rules. I bought a (upscale model) Toshiba...he wasn't pleased with me cause it has Vista! He just purchased me a new Dell desktop and it has XP - thank Gawd! Not fond of Vista! But it's a done deal for the HP so nothing can be done about it........ |

Have an HP laptop, and so far at least, no problems.
Had Norton for several years, and it finally went for a crap on me. Ended up costing me a hard drive, and I lost a lot. Their much-vaunted and highly publicized "customer service" department.....doesn't. I use the package my Shaw internet service provider supplies. So far, so good (As the guy who jumped off the Empire State Building said as he passed the 50th floor.) |

I have a HP desktop computer and it works fine for me.
As far as Norton is concerned: don't buy it. When I tried to de-install the Norton Internet Security on my dad's PC I ended up wrecking his PC. We had to set it up completely new. When my abo with Norton ends I will try to get rid of it without having to format my hard-drive as well. Norton does use too much memory and I don't like their attitude that every 2 years you have to buy the new version of their programs as they do not support the old versions any more (my dad had Win2000 and they were not supporting that any more either). |
