CBS Pirate Master
Did anyone else watch this mindless fluff last night?
I had an hour to kill before I picked my son up from an end of school year party..... The descriptors that they give people underneath their names to help you keep track of the characters can be funny, for instance, John is a "Scientist/Exotic Dancer" What would my tag line be? Stay at home mom/80s music dancing queen? I would have to think of something... |

It was OK, a lot like Survivor in that they have team challenges. It is always interesting to watch "game theory" play out before your eyes....They always do such a good job finding unique personalities for this show. It was also funny to watch power go to someone's head.......
Sometimes you can watch network shows on the cbs.com site. We have Comcast, so it might be available on demand. |

I'll watch it again before deciding, but if I had to decide based on last night, it wouldn't last. Still, there were some interesting characters and I've already got a couple of hate/love types. I wish John had stayed longer; he was definitely in my bad books already.
I really loved the last Survivor season and I'm definitely looking for a similar fix, so I hope this show does it! Caroline |

It was our first try at watching a Survivor-type show, and we didn't care for it. Way too formulaic.
Not enough pirate savagery. If I had been the captain, I would have beaten the cr*p out of that idiot who stole the compasses, to get them back. Yargh! |

During the race between the two teams to get to the treasure, the wife summed it up with "It looks like a ride at Disneyland". The number of fake skeletons was a bit ridiculous, and the "clues" on the maps were just plain road markers (if the map said to pull ashore at Deadman's Point, and showed a picture of a skeleton with a cutlass through it's head, then there was an obvious skeleton with a cutlass through it's head on the river shore). It would be a lot more interesting if the clues were actual puzzles.
From what I understand about pirates, the ship is much too big; if I pirate captured such a ship they’d loot it and sink it, as it’s too big to maneuver in a fight. And what’s up with a Captain’s Cabin that is a side room off of the crew bunk room? I think the producer is living it large in the true Captain’s Cabin. The captain won't last long unless he changes his attitude; he's drawing on his military experience to impose discipline like a navy captain of the time would, which is with extreme strictness as if the crew has no choice. But with the mutiny option being available, he needs to lead like a pirate captain; strict but with rewards for the crew. They voted off the person he wanted gone, so if the next show does not open with him rewarding them for that, I’ll know his time is limited. |
