No Dogs......
I gave my dogs, Jewel and Luke, away today. I really didn't think it would be this hard!!!
I was ok all through taking them to the vet for their check-ups and shots, and to indroduce the new owner to the doctor, and all that... and then we took them to her house but when it was time to leave..... and they just look at you like that, you know?? I was crying my eyes out before I even made it home - four houses down!! And I know I had to do it, there is no way we could take them with us to Mexico. They're border collies, they're hyper, they need lots of room to run and LOTS of attention.. and they will get all this at their new home. And I know they are going to a good home!! But still.... |

I'm sorry Judy...........you did what was best for the fur babies......
Go down tomorrow and see them and I'll bet you will feel better when you see them having a good time ......... I would do this every day until I left or until you feel like they are better off there at their new home than in Playa.......... ((hugs)) coming to you I feel your pain ![]() |

I think it would be hard to go see them, they may think you are "taking them back home". I know when I board my dog for a week when going to Playa every year, she knows whats up when I drop her off. She is so happy to see us when we pick her up after being gone a week. You already know your neighbors well, you know they will take care of them. I know what your doing is very very hard. I have never had to do that except when they are sick and old and you can not save them, you take them to your vet to have them put down humanly. We had to do it for our 17, 16, 15 year old cats, and 13 year old dog when we could not save them with medicines. Believe me we cried for days. They were the perfect pets. But, there are many other pets out there needing homes, maybe when you move to Playa can you adopt some of Playainfo cats? They all need a home if they are still available. Anyway, what yoy did was very tough, you know they are great dogs but going together to a great home should give you piece of mind. It would be more tough to take them to a shelter not knowing if they would be able to be adopted "togerther". You see so many stories like that. I wish I could adopt them all.

We thought a lot about this before we decided and one of the top criteria we had for leaving them was that they would stay together, cause they're kinda joined at the hip!! We could never have taken them to a shelter, not knowing what would happen to them, and the chances were slim that eight-year-old dogs would get adopted, especially together! I know we did the right thing and they'll be just fine. And I think you're right, "visiting" them now would not be such a good idea... I'd just have to go through all the seperation anxiety over and over again... btw here they are:As far as adopting another pet, well I'm not much of a cat person, but I just know I'm gonna be sorely tempted by Andy's dogs... although I don't think I'm gonna want a new dog for a while! Better to give them a new home than to abandon them like so many people do every day. You did the right thing. It should be hard because you really love them I'd be wondering if you had said, "man, it was so easy to get rid of those bloody dogs."![]() |

that must have been so hard. I know when my brother moved overseas I took in his cat for him (and I was never ever a cat person before this). He was so heartbroken over this old cat (she was 12). She lived another 6 years and became my hubbys favorite all time pet. (she liked men better). So you know you dogs will be well cared for and loved, so just tell your self they will have a good life with the new owners. I know we have not even gone on vacation yet and I am already missing my pets and worried about them. ![]() |
