Gingrich takes Bush White House to Task
Bush-Bashing and Blaming it on GW.....sheesh! (those darn Republicans!) It IS nice to see Newt and I agreeing on a few things. Excerpt..... Newt Gingrich described the Bush administration as dysfunctional and its unpopularity as hazardous to those in the Republican Party. "The government is not functioning. It's not getting the job done," said the former House speaker, who is considering a run for the Republican presidential nomination. "Republicans need to confront this reality." Gingrich said in a broadcast interview he believes Bush "means very, very well" but falls short when it comes to putting his goals in place and running the government. "All you have to do is look at the examples I've given you today where the government simply fails," said Gingrich, citing the administration's handling of the war in Iraq, its immigration policies and response to Hurricane Katrina. Just trying to separate himself for a presidential run........but I don't think Newt has a shot.......even when I agree with him I still find him very annoying he always sounds like he is whining

I've said for years, the Bush administration is not, by historical standards a "Republican" administration. They are neo-cons which are far different (and IMHO) much more dangerous to our country's health and future. This is what has made "debate" with my conservative Republican friends over the past several years so difficult and frustrating. Because the current occupant of the white house has an "R" next to his name, they feel compelled to defend his EACH and EVERY action, when, in fact, much of what he says and does is not very "conservative" or traditional Republican at all. If the presidential ticket was Barry Goldwater OR Dwight Eisenhower vs., say, Dennis Kucinich, I would vote for Goldwater without hesitation. |

![]() Or rather, do you think more that he is saying that which he really believes and only feels comfortable doing that under the cover of a pending presidential election with a "lame duck", unpopular, sitting president from his party? (and also......what Stewart just said! )Last edited by Jacko : 06-04-2007 at 07:25 AM. |

I don't. Not really. If you can find me a TRADITIONAL Republican and put them on the ticket... Someone who believes in smaller government, adhering to the constitution, responsibility and accountability in governance, someone who is OBSESSIVE about fiscal responsibility, and someone who is NOT beholden to the religious right, I would be VERY tempted to vote for them. Someone like Eisenhower, for example. He was EXTREMELY concerned about the power of this nation's military. As an experienced combat general, I would trust someone like him to ONLY go to war when ABSOLUTELY necessary as a LAST option and ONLY for purposes of national defense. I may very likely vote for this type of Republican even if they did NOT support some of the "social" issues I support: woman's right to choose, gay rights, etc. Someone like Colin Powell comes to mind, but he lost too much credibility with his speech in front of the U.N. |

Stewart has done a wonderful job of summing up what a lot of us feel. I don't consider myself a hardcore liberal or ideologue, and don't like being pigeon-holed into that corner when I do criticize the idiocies of the current administration. I have rarely voted strictly along party lines, and would vote for a Republican candidate if I thought they were the right person for the job.
