Birthday
I'll be having my 23rd birthday in Playa when I go with friends in July. Any suggestions for a special evening? We will throw the budget to the wind this night. (Although thanks for the cheap eats thread, mom).

yeah, but we've been there every time we're in playa. I was hoping to get some insight from the locals. The Mayan coffee is fun, and I'm sure we'll go there too, but for my birthday I want to do something different and maybe fancier than La Parilla.

In response to Rissask on the other thread... I was raised in a family where the phrase "all inclusive resort" was worse than any curse-word. We always appreciated the local flavor of every vacation spot, which is why we love playa so much.

I thought that was perhaps why after a few trips you didn't know what was safe to eat and drink.I am of the same mindset, actually...we very rarely travel to AIs, but sometimes from way up here they are much cheaper as a package than air only is, so we grit our teeth and do it. I always thought it was funny that people worry about eating 'in the town', when the only time in over ten trips to Mexico that I have been sick, was at one of the two AI hotels we stayed at! Recycled food and food sitting out in the sun for hours, bad combination.

If it is a more expensive upper end place you want (other than Chicago Don's cuz you've done it already).....
La Palette (french).....fantastic service and great grub. Playasia (japanese fusion).....v cool atmosphere around lit up water in a psuedo tree house setting. Ula Gula - upstairs overlooking 5th. Cafe del Agua - upstairs overlooking 5th also. So many more.......! Depends what you feel like at the time! I would have included Ajua for a great meal and really fun time, but over the past yr, too many friends have not been happy so who knows....every place has their off days.
