school dedication to Delmy's father
Thought this fit better in the news forum than anywhere else, all in all, though it's obviously also a personal thing to us. This past Friday we attended a ceremony for the dedication of a new school across the highway to Delmy's father, Ing. José González Zapata, who again passed a way a bit over a year ago after 2-3 decades of public service to this region and its people.
![]() This was actually the second time this has happened, the other school already dedicated to and named after him being in Cozumel. This time, at least, the governor and the mayor were both present and spoke, as did Delmy's brother, and they all took part in the traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony, along with Delmy's mother and sister. ![]() ![]() As the mayor is (first) cousin to Delmy, and the governor is a more distant cousin, it was a very family affair. The governor in particular stressed that intelligence and honesty were in his mind the two key words to be associated with my late father-in-law. The kids also had some fun, though it was very hot that day, as evidenced by this shot of our daughter Alex playing with our nephew (Delmy's brother's son) Diego. [Shots are small and rather fuzzy because these are all video caps, as we don't currently have a working digital camera and the photo function on the video doesn't seem to have worked properly.] Steve |

What a great tribute for your father in-law. From what I know about your FIL based on what you have said, he sounds like a wonderful person.
Was Delmy there or was she home on bed rest? It looks as if there is a woman there who looks a lot like Delmy and is also pregnant. Is this Delmy or is that possibly her sister? |

Great news Steve!
Always nice to know people appreciate the altruistic efforts of others, especially those of true public servants. And the video captures are about as nice as I've seen. I wouldn't have known, honestly.... |

Thanks for the nice remarks.

Delmy said she wasn't going to miss the dedication this time, in part because I think she couldn't get over to Cozumel for the dedication of the other school there some time ago. Steve |

Very glad that an honest and truly caring politician is getting his 'props". I hope many others follow in his foot steps and carry on with what he stood for. Delmy and family must be so proud to have their father remembered like this. Also, a pretty cool legacy for your children.
Delmy looks beautiful pregnant! (well she is beautiful when not pregnant also) |

![]() I also thought having a school named after you was probably one of the best things that could happen that way. I mean, you know, a park would be nice; a building seems kind of... unemotional or something, just purely functional but easily forgotten. A road or a bridge kind of the same... But a school -- or something else about education, such as a scholarship fund or something -- cool. Steve |

![]() Maybe DU should just focus on holding it together on the ice down the homestretch next year, especially as the Frozen Four will be right in Denver. Steve |
