Riu Playacar

I am taking my husband on a surprise trip to PDC for his 40th. We are staying at the Riu Playacar but plan to go to PDC for dinner and use the AI for breakfast, lunch and snacks. I have a couple of questions - First, has anyone stayed there and how it the hotel? I have heard mixed reviews about musty smells and wet bed sheets and then other rave reviews. Second question is what do you suggest for nightlife in PDC like fun bars and clubs.
Muchas Gracias

We stayed at the RIU Playacar about 18 months ago. It was quite nice, and everything you'd expect. Beautiful beach and grounds, very well kept and clean (and liquor in your room to boot!), I'd have no problems returning. I don't recall any musty smells, but it is the tropics so bring some Lysol or something, just in case. I do recall that the AC was anemic (O.K., but it could have been a little cooler). I doubt that you'll have any problems that the front desk can't fix.

Good call on going to town for dinner. The buffets were good for breakfast and lunc.....maybe check into going somewere for lunch too (I'm kidding-sort of). You'll certainly find something to eat. If you find something you like, don't worry, it will be there tomorrow, and the next day, and the....I'm not big into buffets, so your experince may vary.

Ease your worries, and have a great vacation.

Jsut got back from the playacar on Tuesday. We fell in love with the people at the hotel. They are great very helpful in every way. The hotel, pools and beach were breathe takingly beautiful. We didn't have any regrets about the hotel. Breakfast was great all the time, Lunch was probably the worst meal, and dinner was good most of the time the Buffet was definately better than the sit down meals. Much Better. Senor Frogs was the most happening night time spot we found. I had heard of stinky rooms and wet sheets we took airfreshners and didn't use them we rean the air the entier time and we never had any problems with wet sheets. Also it isn't necessary to wear long pants for the men dress shorts were very acceptable. Hope this helps ahve fun my advice to you is enjoy the pool we regret not spending more time there.
