Casa de Gopala or Luna Blue but...
Wife and I were planning on staying at one of these next May but the wife now say's she would prefer a pool on premesis. Perhaps something just off 5th for $100 a night. Thank's in advance. Craig & Kristi.

You might want to try the search function as these hotels have been discussed at great length. The owners of the Luna Blue are board members and have always been happy to answer questions for us.
We stayed at the Luna Blue last year for 10 nights. It is in a very good location in that it is literally only a few steps from 5th Ave. It is also nice that it is just as close to 10th Ave which is also bustling these days. Most importantly (for us) it was only a 4-5 minute walk to the beach. You also get complimentary passes to the beach club. It was our first time going to the beach club and we enjoyed it. The staff at the hotel were very friendly and eager to help. The owners were on holiday themselves, and so only met them on our last day. The hotel was always clean, our room was made up daily, plenty of towels were provided, and a fridge in your room. I liked that they had wireless internet access (we brought our laptop). We booked one of the Treetop terrace rooms (AKA Shammy's Room) and felt it was definately worth the extra expense. We liked the extra room to spread out and to be able to have a very large outdoors sitting area all to ourselves. It was especially nice at night to have a cup of coffee or read or surf the net. The Treetop room was booked our 1st 2 nights and we stayed in a kitchen studio ... very nice if you will have kids with you or want to save money by eating in. That room was bigger than our second room, but with a token balcony. And it was not as private. Though Luna Blue is in the heart of it all, it was very quiet at night. We did not get any spill over in terms of noise or foot traffic from 5th Ave. Parking was never a problem if you are renting a car as we did. There is a laundry acrsoss the street which we used with excellent results. It allowed us to pack a little less, and return home with CLEAN CLOTHES! There is also a super-ette directly across the street ... very convenient. The only negative thing I can say is that the bed was HORRIFIC! I have been traveling to PDC since 1989 and so have slept on every kind of matress Mexico could throw at me. This was one of the worst. We actually went out and bought an air matress because I just could not stand it. The owners told us that they were in the process of replacing the matresses, so this may have been taken care of. They also offered to pay for our air matress which, even though we did not take them up on it, was a very nice gesture. I HIGHLY recommend Luna Blue .... just give your matress a bounce when you arrive. Last edited by FrankRN; 06-12-2007 at 08:14 AM. |

We had a good stay at Casa de Gopala, very quiet and comfortable, but that was more than a year ago.
Since then, someone posted here that CdG no longer had pool-sharing privileges with its neighbor. So I would definitely nail down whether that is true or not before committing. |

I'm not fishing, here: I ask because it seems the answers are avoiding beachfront properties and shooting at more economical rates at the same time, but there are a number of places you can stay during that season right on the beach, putting you a block off 5th, possibly also with a pool, and still be at your given target of about $100 a night...
