restaurant off of juarez and the beach
Last june I ate at a restaurant off of juarez and the beach. It was after dark and the place was empty. We were the only people eating there and never saw another customer the whole time we were there. Anyways, we were staying at an AI and got tired of the so-so food, so we cab'd into town to try a restaurant. We thought it was good, even returned two nights later. I don't know the name of the restaurant and was wondering if you folks could enlighten me and also chime in on why it never gets spoken about? i will try to dig up a picture i took of the dinner.

Ok, guys, he uploaded two pictures to Photobucket, just follow the link.
What I got is "Restaurant Bar Las Piņatas" but have never heard of 'em before. Does it look familiar to somebody? I'm uploading an "enhanced" cropping of the first picture. |

The only one I can think of is that round place right on the beach, but for the life of me I can't remember the name. I just remember the margaritas weren't to our liking, so we never went back. Didn't try the food though.

Las Pinatas IS at the main plaza, on the beach, next to the pier.
The palapa is about head high as you walk along the stone pathway.... IF you want a really cool restaurant experience ON the beach...keep walking up the beach along the water to the north away from the ferry pier, until you come to the Playa Maya Hotel....don't know when they close the restaurant, but I can honestly say I don't think you'll be disappointed with either the beachfront location, the food, or the killer margys... |

Good that you know, Cuff'
If for any reason Playa Maya restaurant is closed in the evening, you can walk back towards the pier and stop at 2nd street to eat at La Tarraya, great seafood and non-touristy prices. |

the wife does not like fish, and i don't think i could muster the bravery to eat a fish while he stares me down. maybe a battered fish, any kind of shrimp, any kind of crab, and any kind of lobster. but the mexican food we ate at that place was pretty darn good. Service was very slow, but i had a beer and local kids were playing soccer in the sand. if i remember correctly, it was pricey. I was hoping some had eaten there and knew of another place that served eqiuvalent food for a cheaper price.
