Greetings from Kentucky, USA!
Hey everyone! I'm Candice, 26 from Louisville, KY. My husband and I went to PDC on our honeymoon this past May, and needless to say, we fell in love with it! So much so, that we've actually decided since we've been back home that we're going to pack up and move down next year (sooner if finances allow). Of course there are tons of things that we need to learn/figure out (i.e. spanish, haha), and this website has actually given the both of us a ton of headway. I pretty much look at the playa webcams several times, everyday. That's my favorite feature
. Anyway, there doesn't seem to be much on here about relocating, unless I've just missed it. I'd love some suggestions, or maybe ideas that we may have not yet thought about. I look forward to talking to you all! |

you may want to ask yourselves a few questions before making the move: After one visit, you feel this is the place you want to live? Do you want to work here? Can you live here without work? Are you prepared to have a lower standard of living to live here? Can you deal with the sun, sand, water and food? Do you really know what you are getting in to? Here are some links to threads that you may find useful. Working Working Moving Moving Threads Moving to Playa Resources Last edited by Babaloo : 06-14-2007 at 10:12 PM. |

Thank you SO much for those links. They provided a ton of useful information and insight. Basically what it boils down to is how much we enjoyed the atmosphere down there. The ocean, the sun, the people...everything. After coming home and getting back into the corporate grind, I guess we kinda realized how much we want a more "bohmeian" lifestyle in the caribbean. Theoretically, we don't know what we're getting into really, but we figured while we have the opporitunity ( i.e. no kids, no real ties other than friends and family at home) we should take the chance and see how it works out. Unlike my husband who has pretty much always been working under the rule of a corporate thumb, I've worked mostly in coffee houses and locally owned coffee shops and bars, etc. I just can't get the idea of doing that, but in PDC, out of my mind. After reading all the threads about working, apparently that would be a little tougher than I originally had imagined. |

Go for it
Hi Candice. We are also in Louisville and have been going to Playa since the '80's. I say, if you think you might want to live in Playa, go for it. This is the time in your life to do what you want. If you don't like it you can move back. All it will cost is a few months time.
This is advice I wish I had taken at your age. I've always wanted to sail across the pond, and maybe on around the world. Thought I would do it after the kids were grown. Now we have the spectre of weddings, future grandchildren and aging parents trying to hold us back. I'm preparing to retire early and go anyway. What the heck. Like I said, try it. |

You know, after every article and forum I've read, I always go back to the idea of, "You know what? Why not?". Like I said earlier, we don't really have anything holding us back. Worst case scenario, we rent a place for a couple months, and move back home. No harm, no foul. At least we tried it, but chances are, we'll totally find a place and fall into a groove, and love it! It's worth a shot at least. Right now, we have a year or so to figure it all out before we actually take the plunge. A lot could change in that time, but I won't let the dream die and I know my husband won't either. He wants to go NOW, haha. Realistically we can't though, but if we keep the passion for it, I know it'll work out one way or another. I just don't want to be sitting around here in Louisville 10 years from now talking about how I wished we would have at least tried, you know?

Hey welcome to the forum. Go for it. Why not? I wanted to live in Greece so I did it. I lasted a year and then I was ready to come home. Life is different for everyone and you are the only one that can live your life and make it happen so I suggest that you do it
