That's true about the fish. I eat the eyes, brains and everything on the fish head that I can chew.

How old is your son? Its wonderful that you want your kids to be openminded about food. We are trying very hard to keep our kids openminded about many things, including food...

I just want to see if I'll enjoy it too!
I can get my cultural experience in other ways, thanks.

My son is older than your lot...young teen. He's had turtle, iguana (curried), armadillo, possum and wild boar. I tried everything except the wild pig. Iguana was my husband's favourite. We had some deer jerky for Christmas which the kids loved, and also a type of sausage that was made from deer. Pretty good stuff. In Cuernavaca we tried something in the market (an insect) that was quite interesting, but not something I would be craving anytime soon Jesus might know the name of this particular one. It's supposed to be high in iodine.

We've travelled quite a bit with ours and lived in a few different places so they're pretty open minded as well.

I am not sure I could do the insects...

Likewise, there is a thai dish that involves sprinkling chilies and lime juice on tiny live glass shrimp that I've heard about. Apparently, part of the experience is the way they snap in your mouth as you eat them. Not sure I could do that either...

Oh please...

I've read enough about you and your parenting to know that you teach your kids about a LOT more important things than eating funky food!!!

Thanks Stewie. I see cheek at the Mexican grocery, store by my house, thank goodness its already torn away from the skull. I've yet to try it and I think its going to be a little while longer before I can get that image out of my head.

It's all covered in the "Don't Drool" thread: Chapulines.
And I bet that Stewie would love those, they come fried.

You've got to try these Stewart Seriously, I was expecting worse. Not that I'm dying to have a go again, but it was an interesting experience. My friend swallowed one alive! I believe in Taxco they make a jam out of them...Jesus, is this correct? Or maybe they're another type of insect.

We were going to try El Duro last night but didn't see anyone eating there, so we went next door. I was wondering if they own the place to their right? My son said the name on that side had something to do with Poblano so I'm thinking we didn't eat at El Duro...anyway, he pronounced the Tacos at this establishment to be the most delicious and moist so far. Will have to go back and take some pics and order again.

By the way, very friendly folks and the guy who does the meat is amazing to watch.

Sorry for not answering before, I was trying to find more info but so far I don't now about any jam thingie.

There are insects that are eaten alive, but I won't do it. For chapulines/grasshoppers I find it difficult as they would jump out of the tortilla.
