Camera Help
We have a Sony DSC-W100. For no reason that I can see, the camera has stopped focusing. Almost all the pictures I take are blurry. This is with it in the automatic setting. I am not a camera wiz, so changing the appetures (sp?) and things like that is not an option. Does anyone know what we could have done or touched to do this. We are leaving town on Sunday and I would love to have a camera that is working. Ginger, Mikey, Tommy........anyone else?

Have you tried ... to clean the lenses? I'm totally serious, in my new camera placing a finger on the camera lens is quite easy. Use a wipe with a bit of isopropyl alcohol or one of those specially designed for cameras. After that, the next thing is to check that the little motor that focuses is working, do you hear any sound when you try to focus? I don't see manual setting for focusing in your camera: ![]() But you have different settings, maybe it's stuck in one of this try it. Focus - Multi AF, Center AF, 0.5m, 1.0m, 3.0m, 7.0m or Infinity Is the icon with the little hand and a "F" on it. It comes after "Color" and before "Metering Mode" |

Do you hear the focusing noise on the blurry pictures? You say that it works for a while, but, when does it begins to fail? It happens on daylight or only during indoors/dark places? Also remember to clean the sensor and donīt obstruct any of the leds or little hole in the front of the camera, itmay be used for focusing. Notice the small round hole between SONY and the view finder, below flash level, right below the 4 little holes?

My older Canon point and shoot had this problem. For awhile it would correct itself when I would put new batteries in. Then it happened more frequently. I tried everything (like what Jesus suggested) and nothing worked. Asked my camera store buddy about it, he said it's screwed, was probably dropped or something and the focusing rings weren't responding automatically anymore. THe kids use it a lot, so I could see that.

...you might also try cleaning any other light sensors on the front of the camera. Otherwise, it's likely an electro/mechanical issue possibly caused by Playa beach particles. Last edited by JimmyMN; 06-27-2007 at 08:31 AM. |
