Heads up for some good ice cream - Santa Clara

While not really a "changarro" per se, I did want to give a heads up for this ice cream place around the corner from where we stay in Playa. It is NOT cheap, but it is the best ice cream I've found in town. I don't know if there are multiple locations of Santa Clara, but the one we go to is on the west side of 10th ave, between calle 14 north and calle 14 north biz. Good stuff, very creamy, full of flavor and some interesting choices. My favorite was "anniversary" which was like a dulce de leche, but with some dried cranberries in it. Iain (obviously) enjoyed his mint chocolate chip, and Adrienne loved her fresa (strawberry) as well. Here are some pics. (BTW, I hope you enjoy my daughter's expression in the third pic. I think she may have been getting tired of getting her picture taken. 'Ya think? )

being on a "live here" budget
it kills me how expensive good ice cream is

Even Haggen Das at Mega is over 70 pesos a pint
....although Nestle ice cream is 25 pesos a pint

The Nestle isn't bad
but it ain't Ben & Jerry's Karamel Sutra

We tried some of the less expensive Mexican local brands when we were there and they weren't very good.

Rick - I'm taking my son and my dad back to Playa Aug 17th through 22nd. This ice cream place is around the corner from my apartment. If you and Susie would like to come in to town, it would be my pleasure to buy you lovebirds a couple of Sundaes!!!

Along with this, Santa Clara, I have written down a good ice cream shop on 10th and Calle 8. Waffle cones.

But I LURVE me some mint chocolate chip.......

Actually I'm kinduv a tart sorbet fan, a little bit goes a LONG way - but they're hard to find and I won't pay H-D prices......

Santa Clara is expensive all around Mexico, that's why the keep up with the quality, but ouch! I don't go as often as I would love, but that is good for loosing - or at least Not Gaining- weight.
