Happy Birthday !!!

Born in London in 1967, the Automated Teller Machine (ATM) has turned 40 years old!

Does anybody here know .... is it true that you used to have to actually go all the way into the bank in the olden days?

Yes, Frankie, dear. Waaaaay back then, we used to have actually PLAN what we needed for cash for the upcoming week from our check (that was a little paper thing that represented the money that they now wire directly into your account)!! Isn't that astounding??? PLANNING ahead, PAPER checks, and having a BUDGET???

Now we can just press buttons and get more dollaahs from the magic machine in the wall. Amazing, it is!! Simply amazing!!

I honestly can't remember the last time I wrote a check. It was at least 18 months ago. Though every once in a while my wife will write one for a school thingy for the kids. I have not ordered checks in at least 4 years. The checks we currently are using still have our old address on them and we moved years ago!

The last time I actually wrote a check to pay for something in a store was in the early 90's ... and that was only because I was living in Scotland. They don't believe in adopting new technology.

I still have checks that say "Fleet Bank" on them!! And I still use them when needed. Like you, 90% of my bills are paid on-line.

I don't understand why people don't have direct deposit for payroll, and still write checks!
I hate when I am in line somewhere and the person in front of me writes a check.
