I think he was referring to language groups, in fact he didn't Germanic which as I understand it is the language group for your country and Scandanavia in linguistic terms.

Nevertheless, I realised I knew practically nothing about Icelandic so I looked up this article http://www.iceland.is/media/Utgafa/Icelandic.pdf I found it fascinating. I think it's wonderful that you have what seems a great educational system that places emphasis on learning other languages. It is an area ,as I am sure you probably know, that US education in general has problems with.

Ok, I did understand that but to say that because a language doesn't exist without an army or military.. Or that a country is virtually non-existant without a military.. If thats true.. there must be many countries that don't exsist virtually..

But yes, Icelandic is a part of the Germanic roots but it's really not that similar to other Scandinavian languages.. at least not vocally.
And the education system is good, you start learning Danish and English at about 10-12 (can't remember exactly), that's something everyone has to learn and until you are 18 years old or longer if you choose.
I chose to learn more languages when I entered "college"(different system) at 16, so I learned French, German and of course Danish, English and Icelandic (we have to learn Icelandic (history and grammar) until we finish college, that's from 6-20 years old). And when I finished college at 20 I learned Spanish.
We have to speak another language to be able to travel or work in hotels and such. I love languages so it doesn't bother me

But like Mark said, if there is going to be a serious debate over who gets Arctic resources, it's not likely that Greenland, which is mostly ice and not very many people, is going to be a top contender.

That is just the way it works...a statement of fact....it says nothing about the right or wrong of the situation, it is just the way the world works. Sorry.
