May 12-21--anyone in the area?
Hello all,
FINALLY! 8) I have been reading, researching, enjoying stories and banter, and learning from all of you for the past several months. We will be leaving the morning of May 12 for our first trip/honeymoon to the Yucatan. We will be in Isla Mujeres (Playa Media Luna) 2 nights, then Chichen Itza (Delores Alba) 1 night, Tankah Bay 3 nights (Blue Sky Hotel), then rounding out the trip in Playa at La Tortuga for 3 nights, departing May 21. Will any of you be in the area? |

Have a great trip, remember it isn't safe to swim in front of the Media Luna (ask for a corner room) North beach is just a hop skip and jump away. On the other side of the Island, Playa Sol also known as Sergio's is the best place (IMHO) to enjoy the sunset. You can start about noon working your way west on the happy hours on North beach. Sergio's happy hour is from about 4 till about 7, sometimes later. Try Caso O's on the south/western end of the Island for dinner one night.
The Blue Sky is beautiful only 6 rooms, has a great italian restaurant, and Casa Cenote is right next door. |

Thanks for the tips Critter! Yeah, I read that about Media Luna, selected it for the view/sunrise and recommendations from the Isla Mujeres Net board more than anything.
We're very excited...we have this feeling that Blue Sky/Tankah will be our favorite spot...but I'll post a trip report when we get back and let you know! |

Hello.
Stacey. My wife and I will be in Playa at la Tortuga from May14th to the 26th. Then we're off to Isla Mujeres (on Critterman's suggestion) until the 29th. We'd love to hear about your stay on Isla Mujeres so we'll know what to do once we get there. We have not arranged any accommodations yet for Mujeres. I figure we might just take the ferry over on the 26th and see what we can get. Hopefully we'll see you at la Tortuga. My name is Jeff and my wife's name is Heather. Critterman. We'd like to stay on Isla Mujeres for three nights (26th, 27th, and 28th). Our return flight leaves Cancun on the 29th at 10:26am. I have a couple questions for you. If you're so inclined, please provide some suggestions. 1) Will we be able to make our 10:26am flight if we leave Isla Mujeres early in the morning on the 29th? What transportation suggestions can you offer? 2) If we just walk over to Isla Mujeres on the 26th, will we have a tough time finding an inexpensive ($50USD per night or less) place to stay without having to reserve ahead? We're hoping for a spot near or close to the beach and relatively close to the ferry for a speedy morning departure on the 29th. Playa Media Luna sounds nice. What do you think? My wife and I are beach bums and would like to be close to a beach where we can swim/snorkel. Why can't you swim at Playa Media Luna? Thanks for all your help! Jeff. |

Media luna is all the way across the Island from the ferry, probably a 6-7 block walk. Any hotel in town will never be more than 3 blocks from the beach. I strongly recommend you [url=http://www.isla-mujeres.net] , click on enter, look down the left hand frame for the maps page, find the full island accomadation page, print it out. With that page in front of you, go back to the left frame and find the accomadation page. Click on it, go alphabetical, and start looking at what is available. Mark on the map places you are interested in, then you have something to work wth. Always a good choice is the Posada del Mar, across the street from the beach, 3 blocks north of the Ferry. Maybe as low as 30-40 per night, good bar, pool, A/C. Anywhere on Isla, cash is cheaper than credit card, there are 5 ATM's one at the foot of the ferry pier, two at the bank across the street, one on the wall by the silver shop (one block straight up from the pier) one in the Super Marcado on the Zocala and one on the south point at Garrafon. You can't swim at the Media Luna beach because of the rip tide. North Beach is a 5 minute walk, taking your time. |

thanks!
wow...Critter...Blue Sky does look amazing...so does everything else in the area, that's why we're staying at so many places. One week from today we will be at those very spots above. I checked out your website also, thank you for sharing! 8)
Jeff--look/ask for us at La Tortuga, we'll be glad to share our experience on Isla, maybe we can grab a drink or dinner. My husband's name is Max, he's very tall, we both have brown hair. Sounds like the walk up prices are much cheaper for Media Luna; we reserved for $85 for a king room, we weren't willing to take a chance since it's our first trip, plus we're splurging a bit b/c it's our honeymoon. Otherwise, we seriously considered Garrafon del Castilla--where you are directly adjacent to great snorkeling around the park, we heard! We're beach bums too and wanted to snorkel from the beach at our hotel, thus the excursion to Tankah Bay (Blue Sky), among others. By the way, if you haven't yet read, I hear that Coco Beach is the best place directly around Playa for snorkeling...search the forum for more... Mark--hello to you too! I'm new myself, normally just browsing around. Everyone seems really nice. Maybe all of us can meet one evening. |
