Happy Canada Day! And Happy Fourth of July!
Whatcha all doing for the long weekend?
I was deserted by my husband who left to go to Cree Lake, in northern Saskatchewan, on a 4 day fly-in fishing trip. It's a huge lake (500 islands!) and they are going to fish for big northern pike, arctic graying and char, and lake trout. He was supposed to leave this morning at 6 AM but there was plane trouble so now they are leaving about noon. Nothing like hearing that the 6 passenger plane your husband is about to fly up to the wilderness is having mechanical issues to make you worry. (If anyone likes to play with Google Earth, here are the coordinates. It is so far north it doesn't get dark this time of year, only dusky for a couple hours around midnight.) Latitude 57°27'51.05"N Longitude 106°45'2.18"W I am going to Prince Albert National Park tomorrow morning, to Waskesiu Lake, with a couple girlfriends (all the wives of the fishermen) and their kids, we are staying in trailers in the campground, do some swimming, hiking, have a few beer, sit by by the fire. Set off some fireworks Sunday, all that regular Canada Day stuff. I was just there staying in cabins with 12 women last weekend. what are the rest of you doing? |

Sounds great, Maggie! And a Happy Canada Day right back atcha!
I had ten 13 year old girls overnight yesterday for an end-of-elementary-school-send-off-to-high-school party. Yikes! So we decided not to leave until Sunday morning. Early Sunday we will head up to the Shuswap to stay at a friends summer place on Mara Lake (home of the houseboat). We'll stay for the day and do some boating, wakeboarding, kneeboarding, etc. then stay the night and head out early the next morning to Banff. We are then heading from Banff, through the rockies to Jasper, then to Edmonton, then south to Drumheller, and from there we are winging it. I can't wait, I love roadtrips!

Lucky Ginger (well not the ten 13 year old girls part- I hope you've recovered
).The Shuswaps are beautiful. One year we should go and do that houseboat trip again. That roadtrip sounds like a blast! Are you going to do the Tyrell Dinosaur museum at Drumheller...or weren't you there recently, or am I losing it? Lyle Lovett, cool jamesblonde,(WAAASSSUUUUUUP? ) have a great time. Do you have Monday as a holiday or just Wednesday the fourth? Thanks Cosmo! I can't see your bathroom reno pics in that thread but from the comments it sounds like you done good. Be careful with those devices now. monte you are still getting more rain? Hope it stops soon. ![]() and have fun in PDC katy! I am sure you will, how could you not! |

HOOOOOOOLLLLLYYYYYY! We are sprucin' up the house tomorrow for an end of school / Canada Day "Happy Hour" Have a bunch comin over about 3:00 or so. Put the usual slab of roast beef on the BBQ and sip some cold ones. Brandon was selected to play in a Junior Pro-am, Saturday evening, at the CPGA golf tournament this weekend. He's been out practicing a couple of times between exams this week. I think he's pretty nervous. Just another quiet weekend at my place.

Thank you to all of our service men and woman who are are protecting our Countries for our freedom. Thanks to them, and their sacrifices we can celebrate the 4th of July (and Canada Day)
We must never forget who gets the credit for the freedoms we have, of which we should be eternally grateful. I watched the flag pass by one day, It fluttered in the breeze. A young Marine saluted it, And then he stood at ease.. I looked at him in uniform So young, so tall, so proud, With hair cut square and eyes alert He'd stand out in any crowd. I thought how many men like him Had fallen through the years. How many died on foreign soil How many mothers' tears? How many pilots' planes shot down? How many died at sea How many foxholes were soldiers' graves? No, freedom isn't free. I heard the sound of Taps one night, When everything was still, I listened to the bugler play And felt a sudden chill. I wondered just how many times That Taps had meant "Amen," When a flag had draped a coffin. Of a brother or a friend. I thought of all the children, Of the mothers and the wives, Of fathers, sons and husbands With interrupted lives. I thought about a graveyard At the bottom of the sea Of unmarked graves in Arlington. No, freedom isn't free. Enjoy Your Freedom - Happy 4th and Canada Day !!! Hug a solider !!!

Great pictures Kayt707.
We'll be grilling out all weekend. Next week on the 4th I'll be running one of the largest 10K races in the country, the Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta. And of course the weekend and the 4th will also involve plenty of cold beer. The beer should make for an interesting race.

I sure hope your cold market heats up again soon. My Dad is a realtor too, I have been tempted to go into that myself now and then, I think I would love it...except the working evenings and weekends part. Nice poem Taps!
