Dallas Police Department Graduation

This is kind of a look at me thread... but really it's more of a look at my son in law thread!

Wes (my stepdaughter's husband of 7 weeks) just graduated today from the Dallas Police Academy. We went to the graduation this afternoon in downtown Dallas. I forgot to bring the camera, so I'm waiting for Ashley to upload and send me her pictures. (Which means there may never be pictures, but I'm hoping. )

Wes's whole family was there, plus Ashley's mom and the 5 of us... and a room full of hollering babies, it seemed. When Miss G started to get fussy, Mike and I took her out and then took turns watching her in the back room behind the auditorium, while the other one stayed in the seats to feed Michael contraband Cheeze-its . I guess not everyone knew where the exits were.

It was a nice ceremony. The police chief was there, as was the newly elected Dallas Mayor in one of his first "official" capacities, being as he just took office on Monday. Some new councilmember as well. And the local news teams, so those in North Texas watch the news at 10:00 and see if you see a story on the academy graduation. They're referring to them as the "best and brightest class" in the history of the academy.

Just wanted to say we're very proud of Wes and this accomplishment.

Char, Congrats to all. It takes a special person to be a policeman and a supportive family to get him through the rough days.

Oh, not to steal from your thread, but I have to add this. Seems as good a place as any. Our next door neighbor, who is currently the chief of police of our town, just got a new job as the chief of police in the port of (biggest city in WA). She called today to see if she can use us as character witnesses. Bwaaaahhaaahhaaaa. Phew, that was funny. Sorry Char..........back to Wes.

Very cool since I'm not partying tonight and just lounging around the house knitting, I will make sure I look for it on the news. I've got ch.5 on right now but nothing about it.
Congrats

Yeah, he'll be protecting you!!!

I couldn't tell which news team it was... I didn't even know til one of the speakers made reference to it being important enough to put on the news...

I have the utmost respect for Wes and what he's doing... although there is a side of me that is scared to death....

Very cool for him.... He is realizing his dream. He probably wouldn't be happy doing anything else.

The job is probably more risky than some, but not as risky as others. But, as a parent....I would be proud of him and scared for him too.

Congrats to Wes! A lot of pride is in order and a little fear is not out of order, but there ARE riskier jobs. I'm sure Wes will serve well and have a very successful law enforcement career.

No pix?
I'm sure I'm not alone in admitting that I LOVE seeing a man in uniform!

Otherwise, a big congrats! Thank him for taking on such an awesome responsibility for his fellow citizens!

Wes sent some pics! But he didn't label them so I don't know who he's with in the pics:

I do know this is Wes getting his certificate from the Dallas Chief of Police:

I do know this is the entire graduating class (Wes is top row,5th from the left):

I don't know who this is with Wes, but I'm guessing it's his training officer:

I do know this is his dad pinning a pin to his shirt (and I do know that his dad used to be a police officer years ago in Garland):

And I do know this is Wes with his dad in front of a portrait...but I don't know who the portrait is... and it has to be somebody of some significance to them, because in another pic it has been photographed by itself:
