Five years since last visit

My wife and I honeymooned in Playa 5 years ago this month because it was the anti-Cancun and we loved it. We are returning in a week and a half and I have several questions.

1. We live about 40 miles SW of Austin and the smokey haze from the agricultural burning from Central America (Guatamala?) and Chiapas has been really bad for about a week. What is it like there and is there rain expected soon to ameliorate the fires?

2. We are coming down with some friends who somehow talked us into staying at Fisherman's Village. My wife and I loathe all-inclusives and will bolt at the first glitch. We stayed at Sacbe B&B our last time and would like to return there, is it still a going concern?

3. Someone please tell me that Playa has not become Cancun Jr.

Thanks for any help and can't wait to get there, I can already taste the garlic shrimp at Ronny's.

Gig'em

Nope, no Cancun Jr. PDC has progressed a bit but not to worry. Town is the same. Go to "read more" at the top right for lots of great details.
Have a super time

re: pdc change

Dear Xetc ... Cancun, Jr.? I vote no ... Change? Like the wind but it is essentially the same, just more of the same, and places close, open, change names etc .... Ronny's Steak House remains at same hotel whose name escapes me ... Sacbe B&B is now Villas Sacbe, a luxury condo for sale venue which does not rent night to night; Ted Rhodes, the B&B owner, remains a principal and also has a jungle housing project going called Pueblo Sacbe which has its own forum on this home page (see icons) .... Fishman Village? no info except that it is a short walk to the main bus terminal at Ave. Juarez .... weather? not sure, but Associated Press, Wash. Post have Mexico news pages and try weather channel info pages for Cancun ... my guess is that jungle fires smoke from Chiappas would be blown inward and outward as in West & North and not North & East ... the strongest winds on the coast tend to blow in & circle back softer ... you may ask this question separate for better BB info ...kjtom

We're not seeing any of that smokey haze here.

+6 points for vocabulary

Yes, many points for XIIthMan. Ameliorate is similar to mitigate, but also has an element of soothing to it. One would seek to ameliorate a sore tense back by finding someone nice to rub it nicely.

A scientist might quibble with XIIthMan's usage, and a poet might like it.

Amelioration is close to the opposite of exacerbation, no?

Sacbe is still there,

and better yet, has a beautiful new addition: Villas Sacbe. The condos are basically done; just waiting for titles etc. and they will be ready to rent. When are you coming? I'm an owner  (did you guess?)
pm me for more info if you're interested in knowing more.

BTW, people say that the salespeople at Fisherman's Village are pretty agressive.
