Finding a Hotel upon arrival

Just out of curiosity, has anybody done this and been able to "barter" a room? We arrive May 21st and we're curious to know how practical this is. Your experienced input and thoughtful replies are greatly appreciated!

If you click here you will find a recent discussion on this topic. Also try a search on the word "schlep" (which is what James has dubbed this activity) or "barter", "bartering" along with the words "room" or "hotel" and you will find other discussions on this topic. Unless its high season, you shouldn't have a problem.

"Schlepping"

Thanks to you all for the valuable info! We are renting car and driving down, just my husband and I, so the "tour" thing is not a problem. The only REAL problem is being tired from traveling and having the patience to "hunt and peck."

Has anybody stayed at the Lab Nah?

Thanks again! Great board!

Based on your arrival date (quiet season) you'll have absolutely no problem showing up and finding an abundance of hotel rooms. I do it all the time during high season and have never had to sleep in the rental car. If you walk up to the hotel's check-in counter and negotiate for a weeks stay, you'll do way better than the posted rate.

As for Hotel Lab Nah, I would have no desire to stay there. You'd be much happier with Costa del Mar right on the beach. If you want to stay at a hotel that's underated and inexpensive, and get a real bang for your buck, take a look at Tropical Casablanca (right across 1st Avenue from Costa del Mar). I also would recommend Kinbe, Hotel Plaza, Phantom Paradise and Hacienda Maria Bonita as very good values. Most of these have air conditioning which is a definate advantage in late May.
