From Cancun hotel to Playa
I've read that you should take the bus from Cancun airport to PdC, but what about from a hotel at the southern tip of Cancun? Taxi? Car rental? Or some other alternative? If we get a taxi there, is it just as easy to get one in PdC for the return? I apologize if this is posted elsewhere, but I couldn't find it.

A little more information would make this a little easier:
1. day trip? 2. Switching accommadations? 1. Depending on how far south you are you can do two things. a. Take the hotel shuttle bus downtown to The bus station, bus to Playa b. Taxi to 307, wait on the southbound side for a bus or collectivo 2. Are you moving down, and plan on travelling around, rent a car or do either of the above, but remember you will be lugging your cases. In either case, a taxi in the hotel zone is cheaper in the street than at the hotel. Taxi's pay the hotel for a pickup. |

Thanks Critter! In answer to your question, it's just a day trip, coming down to see a condo for sale and hang out all day, so no cases to lug, just backpacks.
I was gathering that a taxi ride would be about $40 each way - close? How much cheaper in the street than the hotel? (We're at the Westin, almost at the lower tip.) Is it gonna be tougher to find a way back or no different? I'm guessing that 307 is the road that heads to PdC? Though I've been to Cancun many times, I haven't ventured out on the roads much - my trips to Playa and Cozumel were always via boat. Maybe I should consider that option this time...? |

Susie-
Did you already pay for your Westin accommodations? I know you have a place you usually stay, right? Why not consider staying in Playa during your entire trip? I promise once you experience Playa you won't want to stay in Cancun again. Have I ever steered you wrong? :P And yes, 307 is the highway you take to Playa. If you are set on only going for a day trip, why not rent a car for the day and drive yourself? It's probably cheaper than a taxi both ways. Becky |

Pesonally I would rent a car. Find out which company the Wesin uses and book online for pickup and drop off at the hotel. Getting out of the hotel by the south side is an easy drive and you run right into 307, just take the exit to playa and head south. I strongly recoment you get the Cancun, and the Riviera Maya maps. If you do not know playa that well get that one as well.
Everyone should try Cancun once, that way you appreciate the other areas that much more. |

Oh yea! I can't believe I forgot to recommend Mapchick's maps. Susie, you've got to get these:
http://www.cancunmap.com/ I've also got a whole list of other things you've "gotta" do! But you've gotta stay there for more than a day!!! ![]() Becky |

Thanks Becky and Critter!
Yes, I got an air and hotel package (CHEAP) at the place I usually stay (it's actually Club Regina AT the Westin, not the Westin itself). The staff there is great and knows me well enough to take very good care of me! 8) I'm not sure if my traveling companion is ready for a whole week at Playa... at least not at the sort of place I'd like to stay. He wanted an AI, which is really not at all my style. This is a compromise as is. My next trip WILL be Todo-Playa, I promise! Map Chick looks like a great idea, but I'm leaving next Wednesday and it may not arrive by then. Any other suggestions for the next best thing, map-wise? And Becky... e-mail me a day's worth of tips, okay! |
