A Very Nice Trip Report by Redhairgirl1 and Melliedee
Let’s start by saying this is our very first trip to Playa del Carmen. Jenny and I have been best friends for over thirty years and have traveled lots of places together. We absolutely could not wait for this trip, partly because we both became just a bit obsessed with this forum!
Travel Day: a bit of pre-flight drama happened rather suddenly when my little Boston Terrier, Gracie, had to have emergency surgery about 5 hours before we left for the airport. It was Sunday so I had to take her to the emergency vet. 700 bucks on my credit card and one drained abscess later, here’s a pic of the saddest little dog in Ohio. ![]() She was in good hands at grandma’s house (and doing just fine now) so we left for the Detroit airport about three o’clock in the morning. With so many delicious food pics on this forum, here’s one of our fabulous airport meal: apple slices and a breakfast sandwich. ![]() Uneventful layover in Fort Lauderdale. On the flight to Cancun we had a little visitor hanging over the back of the seat and asking LOTS of questions! ![]() Immigration and customs went off without a hitch; we both got green lights. A funny side note: Jenny asked if she should put “Caucasian” under citizenship. I told her “American” would do just fine and we had a laugh about it! Here are the papers: ![]() After charging us ten bucks to check our bags, Spirit lost them in Cancun along with everyone else who connected from Detroit! I normally stress about that kind of thing, but was already in a playa state of mind. We filled out a form and now we did not have to drag our luggage up 5th! It was delivered around 5 hours later. Here’s the line to send lost baggage: ![]() Outside the airport. AHHHHH. Well, the heat. The heat hits you immediately like a balmy mister of hot chicken soup right in the face. Hey look! Cold beers for sale right outside the terminal! ![]() ![]() Next, we realized we needed a shuttle to catch the ADO. We’re off! ![]() Here’s Jenny outside our beachfront home: The Playa Maya!!! ![]() Our room was the superior balcony, room 304. We had that “jump up and down inside the hotel room” feeling! ![]() ![]() “Jenny’s First Margarita: A Love Story” ![]() After so many rave reviews of Playa Maya’s famous coconut shrimp and guacamole, we decided it was a must have for our first meal. Jenny promised Jesus and Stew to take lots of food pics, and believe me; I could not order a bottle of water without her saying, “Wait! Let’s get a shot of it against the beach!” ![]() ![]() Our view from the palapa: ![]() Rested and fed, we took a walk around town. Stopped at Babe’s for a blueberry margarita and mojito. The drinks were so cold they had steam coming off them in the heat. ![]() More of day one to come… Last edited by melliedee; 11-04-2007 at 05:06 PM. |

Day one part 2….
After our drinks at babes, we decided to hit up the beerbucket to check out where the peepmet was gonna be. We met Captain Ron, and told him of our gathering. Very cool guy. He already knew of the peepmeet, and started to make a welcome sign for us already. We walked around town, and shopped for a bit. ![]() We ate dinner at La Parilla. We shared the Arrachera Yum-o! ![]() Here are a few more shots of the first day….. ![]() ![]() ![]() That is about it for the first day! We will both continue second day soon!! |

Thanks Jenny for remembering us,
![]() Sorry for Gracie, but I hope those 700 bucks were well spent. I think that you need to practice a bit with the "Macro" mode on your camera (for practice, Can you get a close up of Jenny's eyes, and we need more pictures of you, specially in bikini) and also a bit with using the flash when indoors, but so far, so good, thanks a lot, I just hope you finish your report in less than 10 days, ![]() How much they charged for your arrachera at La Parrilla? I think that HC Carnes one's would have been much better for much less. Keep them comming!! |
