that will be her inaugural flight... and I have NO idea what she'll be like... I'm one who will bring snacks and drinks and various activities to serve as distractions because I think that's what I should do as the parent of a child too young to understand airplane protocol... but will they work? man, i hope so... those flight attendants are a tough crowd...

This particular child was not being unruly or misbeheved. Simply being a child and vocalizing on the situation. It's the ones who are constantly screaming and kicking the back of the seat the whole flight that I have a problem with.
And it is not the childs fault in that case either when 9 out of 10 times THE PARENTS sit their and do absolutely nothing. Throw the parents off and let the kid fly. |

Perhaps the airlines could introduce a no kids section of the aircraft at a premium price ? Then if you have issues with exhuberant children, you can opt out.
Most kids are well behaved but some are devils, plus parents who do nothing to control their behavior are not exactly rare. For an addition 15 bucks to have no under 14s (or whatever) I would certainly pony up on a longer duration flight. |

We're not talking about angry, uncontrollable children, or weak, hippie parents that have tried nothing and are all out of ideas. 19 months old, likes to say bye bye plane, and a mom that wouldn't dope her kid up. I understand Electra your point of view, and would love to choke some parents that don't do anything or display no concern of a bratty kid allowed to do whatever they want, but that senario does not apply in this case. Hey, I'm going for a beer, cheers. Mike. |

Totally agree with Electra. You are going to be sitting there for several hours so you try to relax. Last thing you need is some brat saying "bye bye plane" over and over without shutting up.
Kudos to the airline for kicking them out. Maybe these people will next time be more considerate about other passengers instead of saying "oh, it is just a kid, let him annoy the hell out of everybody" Last edited by fryman; 07-13-2007 at 06:22 PM. |

Nobody's picked up on the fact that the flight itself had been delayed a ridiculously long time. Kudos for mom and child for not being in meltdown from that, to begin with. It sounds as though junior was handling the stress of travel remarkably well.
The kid was babbling, like a toddler will do. "Bye, Bye plane" is harmless once you see the context of taxiing past other planes at their gates. It's not like the kid was saying "Boom boom plane" or "Bye Bye Passengers." What's next? Banning children from flights? Good luck with that. |
